Job Title: Controller
Location: Summit, NJ (Hybrid - at least 2 days onsite each week)
Compensation: $180,000-$220,000 base + bonus + potential equity

Position Overview
A growing insurance organization is adding a Controller to support the CFO and help strengthen the accounting function. This is a new role created due to expansion, and the position will have broad responsibility across monthly close, reporting, controls, and process improvement. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting foundation, experience in both GAAP and statutory environments, and the ability to operate in a hands-on capacity.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee statutory reporting, treasury activities, and collections.
  • Manage the monthly close process, including maintaining the close schedule and reviewing reconciliations.
  • Maintain and update accounting control documentation and ensure workflows and processes are clearly mapped.
  • Build and manage a full balance sheet control and reconciliation package for review by leadership.
  • Prepare monthly investor reporting packages and quarterly reporting for additional stakeholders.
  • Prepare the quarterly board reporting package.
  • Review annual and quarterly statutory statements and related workpapers.
  • Lead and manage GAAP and statutory audits handled by external auditors.
  • Review the current accounts payable process and implement improvements to strengthen controls and cash management.
  • Prepare and maintain expense reporting and reconciliation packages for management review.
  • Assist in planning and forecasting and help prepare related financial materials.
  • Manage accounting-related projects across the organization to ensure processes and controls are consistent end-to-end.
  • Oversee the general ledger in NetSuite and help optimize use of the system.
Qualifications
  • CPA strongly preferred (insurance industry experience is valued over a strictly public accounting background).
  • Experience with NetSuite is highly preferred.
  • Background in GAAP accounting, statutory reporting, and audit management.
  • Strong understanding of accounting controls and process improvement.
  • Comfortable working in a growing, fast-moving environment.

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
