The Financial Analyst will play a critical role in supporting the company's financial planning, forecasting, and performance analysis functions. This position will provide key insights into project profitability, capital allocation, and business trends to help drive informed decision-making across our mitigation banking and construction operations. The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented professional who can bridge financial modeling with operational understanding of a dynamic, growing company.
Job Description: ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Maintain, update, or build detailed project and corporate financial models, including short- and long-range forecasts, cash flows and various return measure analyses, sensitivity testing, and capital planning
- Manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual updates to the annual operating plan/budget
- Prepare, analyze, and maintain a broad dataset of inputs for financial models used to support acquisitions, forecasting, and strategic initiatives
- Monitor industry trends and suggest business strategies to take advantage of trends
- Quarterly cash flow variance analysis to the annual plan
- Perform lookback analysis on the Company's investment portfolio of projects to identify and quantify factors leading to variances from original forecasts
- Evaluate new investment opportunities, land acquisitions, and business development initiatives
- Calculate and monitor key performance indicators for the company
- Prepare and give presentations to Mitigation Resources and NACCO management
- Assist with or lead other special projects or duties, as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint, JDE, or similar ERP systems
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. Must be able to convey complex financial models and analysis in simple terms
- Ability to visualize financial analysis using Excel or a business intelligence software such as Tableau or Power BI
- Track record of successful deal evaluation and involvement in investment decisions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to handle large volumes of data and find actionable trends; Alteryx experience is a plus
- Familiar with querying/navigating relational databases, report building, and troubleshooting
- Solid understanding of GAAP, capitalization rules, cost accounting principles, and experience researching accounting transactions
- Must have the ability to handle confidential and sensitive material
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum four-year degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related field
- Three to five years of experience in financial analysis, FP&A, cost accounting, or project finance (construction, land development, or environmental services preferred)
- Advanced degrees or certifications such as MBA; CFA or CPA is a plus
