Summary

Spire is seeking an Operations Supervisor for Service, Distribution, and Construction. This position will be responsible for directly overseeing the work of SE Field Operation Departmentemployees, providing them direction and guidance whenever necessary.


Duties and Responsibilities

* Monitor employees and ensure that they are performing their jobs in a productive and safe manner while providing quality workmanship

* Have a working knowledge of various work management tools used in the Service, Construction, and Distribution Department.

* Ensure that the workload is distributed fairly and appropriately in accordance with the nature of the work to be completed

* Monitor department vehicles using Roadside GPS equipment and software. Have the ability to view and analyze the data provided by the Roadside system.

* Maintain communication with employees by being accessible to them throughout the day and providing direction on general questions or technical issues.

* Validate and complete all paperwork, both electronic and on paper, including documents prepared by employees.

* Maintain contact with the customer service representatives to alert them about any delays or mishaps that occur and make them aware of work appointments that need to be rescheduled.

* Communicate with superiors to keep them informed of departmental operations.

* Redirect the workload periodically throughout the course of the day due to situations that arise in order to maximize efficiency and minimize overtime.

* Consult with customers and contractors to clarify or rectify any specific problems.

* Plan and supervise the work involved in more complex installations or replacement projects involving all material types and sizes of pipe, including plastic, cast iron and steel

* Monitor the job site for conditions that may be hazardous to employees or the public and keep track of existing soil conditions

* Train employees on proper construction and/or distribution, maintenance, or service procedures and standards

* Observe and evaluate new and probationary employees

* Manage inventory of tools and materials on the job site and order more as necessary to complete the job

* Oversee the implementation of plans to ensure the health and safety of all employees in the region

* All other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

Will supervise employees in the department within the Birmingham, Pelham, and Bessemer areas.


Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • High school diploma or GED


Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • 1 year of experience in Field Ops (preferred)
  • 2 or more years of proven working knowledge and understanding of Field Ops (preferred)
  • Knowledge and experience with union contracts ( preferred )


Physical demands, environment and schedule

A mix of normal office conditions, and exposure to all outdoor weather conditions
