Job Overview:

This classification is responsible for directing and managing the daily operations of the Consumer Insurance Services Section. Monitors staff performance and provides timely feedback concerning performance of assigned job duties. The incumbent will be able to analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of current processes and draw meaningful conclusions about areas of improvement for the future in order to increase productivity.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Direct the daily operations of the Consumer Insurance Services Section.
  2. Serve as the primary point of contact for the office, managing and triaging requests for Consumer Insurance Services Section time and attention.
  3. Oversee the mediation and resolution of consumer complaints related to insurance agents, claims disputes, and general business practices of insurance companies. Provide education to citizens who have questions concerning an insurance product or service.
  4. During natural disasters, such as floods, tornadoes, fires, etc. direct liaison services between consumers and insurance companies and agents to assist with the claims process and provide general information and support. Provide on-site assistance in the affected counties when requested.
  5. This position also serves in an outreach role for the Department and meets with consumers at events all across Tennessee. The director will work closely with the Education and Outreach Specialist developing consumer education literature, identifying ways to make the Divisions website more consumer-friendly, and working with Department staff on the Divisions social media presence.

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Education & Experience:

  1. Bachelor's Degree and experience equivalent to seven years of full-time professional insurance claims processing (i.e. examiner, adjudicator, adjuster) or underwriter work.
  2. Preferred candidates will be people-oriented and driven, with experience in advocacy or community engagement/organization.
  3. Insurance knowledge across all state regulated lines is essential to help Tennesseans.
