Purpose and Principle Responsibilities
Organizes, plans, controls, and supervises employees engaged in the machining of precision aerospace components. Ensures that production is completed on schedule and in accordance with specification, cost, and quality standards.
Responsible for achieving key performance indicators (KPIs) within assigned areas of responsibility, implementing and sustaining 5S standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives in safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency.
Works closely with shop floor employees, production control, manufacturing engineering, CNC programming, and product engineering to resolve production issues, improve processes, and achieve operational excellence.
Essential Duties - Other Duties May be Assigned
- Plans, coordinates, and supervises employees engaged in machining operations according to planning, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Establishes and monitors production schedules, resolves production issues, and coordinates and expedites the completion of special orders and high-priority work.
- Owns KPI performance (productivity, on-time delivery, first-pass yield, labor efficiency, etc.) for assigned departments, analyzing trends and initiating corrective actions when necessary.
- Implements and sustains 5S and Lean Manufacturing practices to promote a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
- Leads and facilitates continuous improvement projects focused on reducing waste, optimizing setups, improving tool utilization, and enhancing overall process reliability.
- Monitors inventory and tooling levels, ensures proper maintenance of production equipment, and coordinates with Maintenance and Tooling to optimize uptime and cost efficiency.
- Partners with CNC programming to review and improve machining methods, fixturing, and process documentation for repeatability and productivity gains.
- Coordinates with Quality Assurance to maintain and improve standards of quality and conducts in-process audits to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Engages with shop floor employees daily to communicate goals, provide direction, and encourage teamwork and accountability in achieving production objectives.
- Develops and manages project plans within assigned areas including capital equipment installations, process transitions, and layout improvements ensuring milestones are met on time and within budget.
- Oversees training, development, and performance evaluations for assigned employees to build flexibility, technical capability, and leadership readiness within the team.
- Recommends equipment, tooling, and process changes to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and support the company's long-term operational strategy.
Education and/or Experience Required
- To conform to U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorizations from the U.S. Government.
- Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) from a four-year college or university.
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in a machine shop environment with multiple direct reports.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing, KPI management, and continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
- Manufacturing engineering experience a plus. Aerospace industry experience, particularly in a high-mix/low-volume environment, is strongly preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
