Job Summary

The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech & Emory School of Medicine is seeking a Research Technician to join its team in the Deans Lab which is an applied synthetic biology lab in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech & Emory School of Medicine. The lab focuses on building genetic tools to program pluripotent stem cells to drive their differentiation to produce mature hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) that can be further programmed for differentiating down the hematopoietic lineages for producing mature cells of the blood system. Additional genetic tools are built to engineer cells during the differentiation process to make enhanced cells for next-generation cell therapies. The candidate must be able to work and collaborate in a team spirited lab environment and contribute to the positive and inclusive environment in the lab.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Gather, compile and summarize data in conjunction with assigned scientific tests, experiments, etc

Job Duty 2 -
Prepare statistical analyses and maintain related records..

Job Duty 3 -
Operate various equipment used in research studies.

Job Duty 4 -
Participate as directed in experiment design and preparation.

Job Duty 5 -
Participate as directed in preparation of presentations and manuscripts.

Job Duty 6 -
Maintain laboratory equipment.

Job Duty 7 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
One to two years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in a life science/engineering discipline
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Proven experience in laboratory housekeeping procedures, including maintaining inventory and equipment, preparing solutions, autoclaving, maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of EH&S regulations and requirements for laboratory safety, including methods for handling, cleaning, and disposal of waste.
  • Wet lab experience and a broad knowledge of standard laboratory equipment
  • Experience in cell culture.
  • Coordinating disposal and/or pickup of biohazard and chemical waste.
  • Support other lab members in bench and tissue culture experiments as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires working knowledge of research lab equipment and support processes and practices. Includes skill in data organization, statistical analysis and use of statistical and scientific computer applications.

Salary range: $16.72-$28.25/ hourly
