Summary:

The Automation Pharmacist plays a key role in optimizing Automated Dispensing Cabinet contents, implementing, and maintaining pharmacy automation systems. This position ensures that automation technology supports workflow, improves medication safety, and enhances high-quality patient care.

• Position will be stationed at UNC Medical Center but will require occasional travel to offsite locations as needed. Travel reimbursement is available.
• Optimize Pyxis cabinet contents to ensure clinical appropriateness while reducing inventory waste and supporting operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with Project Management and ISD teams to implement new automation solutions and upgrade existing systems.
• Train pharmacists, technicians, learners, and other staff members on proper use and troubleshooting of automation equipment.
• Monitor system performance, conduct routine audits, and address automation-related issues to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
• Develop, review and update standard operating procedures related to automated medication distribution and inventory management.
• Analyze workflow, identify improvement opportunities, and recommend automation strategies to enhance efficiency and safety.
• Support medication safety initiatives by ensuring automated systems are configured to reduce errors and improve patient outcomes.
• Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to pharmacy automation.

Education Requirements:
* PharmD or BS Pharmacy Degree
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Active pharmacist licensure with the NC Board of Pharmacy or obtainable before initiation of employment. Recent graduates of ACPE-accredited colleges/schools of pharmacy may fill this role while pending initial pharmacist licensure, but are subject to limitations mandated by the NC Board of Pharmacy and must obtain licensure within 6 months of orientation or sooner if required for operations.
