Senior Design Architect

Role Description: Huitt-Zollars is quickly growing and we're seeking an entrepreneurial and like-minded Sr. Design Architect in Orlando who shares a desire to lead high level design thinking and processes in achieving our client's goals and visions. HZ Orlando is looking for a talented individual with proven higher profile design experience through projects and practice, whose experience may include mixed-use, transit, commercial, institutional, hospitality, cultural, and/or sports, We are actively recruiting for unique talent that understands the creative process and also has a keen interest to contribute to growing our business, and together we move our team to new horizons. In this role, you will collaborate with Office Leadership and Principal Designers to lead a team of architects and designers to deliver high quality design projects and thinking. Your previous experience should demonstrate a deep understanding and culture for design-driven thinking, processes, and results, and what it takes to get there. You will partner with like-minded colleagues and help usher in next generation's talent and culture.

Reports to: Vice President of Commercial

Education: Master's degree in architecture from an accredited university required

Duties:

  • With Principal leadership, lead assignments that include conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
  • Think, analyze, plan, test, ideate, design is a norm.
  • Provide strategically minded design support for organization, production and execution of projects.
  • Hands-on design thinking via workshops, sketching, narratives, analysis, and other creative processes for ideation and design direction.
  • Actively develop designs in 3D modeling utilizing Revit, 3D Max, Rhino, Enscape and/or other modeling or rendering software in conjunction with Adobe platforms, or other.
  • Passionately present design concepts and work in a collaborative team approach.
  • Collaborate in new pursuit strategy for opportunities.
  • Teach and mentor our team through projects, mentoring programs, in close partnership with office leadership.
  • Maintain and nurture client relationships in a professional and valued manner.
  • Lead design for internal/external teams, partners, and professional consultants.
  • Actively seek to promote and develop positive culture and ideas daily, and open to collaborating across offices to build a positive culture.
  • Seek external relationships and involvement in community and marketplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and initiating design concepts and design development, within a team environment, supporting and advocating for design collaboration and studio growth and capabilities.
  • Developing and initiating design tools and platforms, processes that define our thinking, and graphically represent our work and brand identity at a highly competitive level.
  • Successfully and consistently advocate for design-centric thinking and producing high-level design solutions within a team environment.
  • Competent, knowledgeable, designer and mentor, actively contributing to office design culture and forward thinking.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations, and partners with leadership to raise design process quality assurances and best practices.
  • Works with Office leadership and Project Managers in support of our comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project.
  • Work with Leadership and PMs to achieve efficient design efforts and staffing.
  • Proactively works with PM to strategize resolving issues that impact project performance.
  • Works with Leadership and PMs for the overall profitability and financial performance on projects.
  • Oversees staff deliverables and production assigned to their projects to ensure client and design requirements are met.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Architect required.
  • Master's degree in architecture from an accredited university required.
  • Natural collaborator, seeking high quality and best ideas for our clients.
  • 10+ years of relevant architecture and design experience, with a strong background in different project types and scales.
  • Skilled in presenting design concepts, ideas, narratives, as well as technical aspects.
  • Technology proficiencies to actively lead design teams and innovation.
  • Exceptional design eye and skill, for design rationale, graphics, and brand identity.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion
  • The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities
