Position Title: Certified Welding Inspector

Wage: $30-$35/hour

Shift: 1st

Hours: 6:30am-3pm

QPS Employment Group is hiring a Certified Welding Inspector for a company in Jefferson, WI. This is a direct hire opportunity.

Certified Welding Inspector Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Records (WQTR) for accuracy and compliance

- Ensure approved welding procedures are current and properly applied in production

- Interpret weld maps, shop drawings, and welding symbols

- Conduct visual inspections before, during, and after welding operations

- Verify base metals, filler metals, and consumables meet project specifications

- Check joint preparation, fit-up, preheat/interpass temperatures, and cleanliness

- Identify weld discontinuities and determine acceptability per applicable codes (e.g., AWS D1.1)

- Confirm welders are certified for required processes and positions

- Monitor welder performance to ensure compliance with qualified ranges

- Maintain welder continuity logs and qualification records

- Determine nondestructive testing (NDT) requirements based on project specifications

- Coordinate NDT activities, review results, and verify repairs or re-tests as needed

- Ensure welding complies with AWS, ASTM, customer requirements, and IAS AC472 standards

- Verify fabrication aligns with engineering design and quality standards

- Prepare inspection reports, NCRs, corrective action documentation, and related records

- Maintain traceability of materials, welds, and inspections

- Verify raw material upon receipt meets grade, specifications, and certifications

- Participate in internal audits and shop quality checks

- Confirm calibration status of welding equipment and measuring devices

- Support continuous improvement initiatives

- Monitor safe welding practices, PPE use, ventilation, and equipment condition

- Report hazards and support welding-related safety training

- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and project managers to resolve welding issues

- Communicate discrepancies, requirements, and corrective actions effectively

Certified Welding Inspector Requirements:

- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required

- Strong knowledge of AWS codes (e.g., AWS D1.1, D1.3)

- Experience interpreting WPS, PQR, WQTR, weld maps, and fabrication drawings

- Proven ability to perform visual weld inspections and identify discontinuities

- Familiarity with NDT methods (VT required; MT/PT/UT/RT knowledge preferred)

- Understanding of IAS AC472 compliance requirements preferred

- Working knowledge of raw material verification, traceability, and fabrication processes

- Ability to prepare accurate inspection reports, NCRs, and documentation

- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with welders, supervisors, engineers, and QC staff

- Knowledge of shop safety, PPE, and safe welding practices

- Proficiency with computers and quality documentation systems

- High attention to detail, sound judgment, and ability to maintain quality under pressure
