Position Summary

The CAD Lead is responsible for leading and overseeing all computer-aided design (CAD) activities within the organization to support the design, engineering, and manufacturing of traction power equipment and systems. This role ensures that CAD standards, practices, and workflows are efficient, consistent, and aligned with company and client requirements. The CAD Lead will supervise CAD designers/drafters, coordinate with engineering and manufacturing teams, and ensure the accuracy and quality of all design and their deliverables.

Role and Responsibilities


Leadership & Management:

  • Supervise and mentor CAD designers and drafters, providing technical guidance and performance feedback.
    * Manage CAD workloads, priorities, and schedules to meet project deadlines.
    * Coordinate with engineering, production, and project management teams to ensure design deliverables align with project goals.


CAD Standards & Processes:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide CAD standards, templates, and drawing practices.
    * Ensure adherence to client specifications, industry codes, and internal quality control procedures.
    * Establish and manage revision control, file organization, and data management protocols.
    * Standardize and maintain the company's CAD libraries, drawings, and 3D model components related to traction power systems.


Technical & Design Support:

  • Oversee preparation of detailed drawings, layouts, schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly models for traction power equipment (e.g., rectifiers, switchgear, control panels, enclosures, bus bars, etc.).
    * Review and approve drawings to ensure accuracy, manufacturability, and compliance with design and safety requirements.
    * Work closely with engineers to resolve design challenges and optimize manufacturability.
    * Support creation of Bills of Material (BOMs) and integration of CAD data with ERP/MRP systems.


System Administration & Training:

  • Administer CAD and PDM/PLM systems (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent platforms).
    * Collaborate with IT and engineering leadership to maintain software licensing, upgrades, and system integrity.
    * Train CAD team members and engineers on best practices, standards, and software tools.
    * Stay up to date with new CAD technologies and methodologies relevant to the traction power and electrical manufacturing industry.


Cross Department Collaboration:

  • Interface with project managers, engineers, and manufacturing personnel to ensure seamless transition from design to production.
    * Participate in design reviews, value engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    * Provide CAD deliverables for client submittals, as-built documentation, and field support as needed.


Qualifications:



  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Design (or demonstrated equivalent experience).
  • 5-7 years of CAD design experience in an industrial, electrical, or mechanical manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in using AutoCAD and 3D modeling tools (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar).
  • Top candidates will also have a strong understanding of electrical and mechanical design principles, fabrication processes, and engineering documentation.
  • Highly Preferred- Experience in traction power, rail, or heavy electrical equipment manufacturing.
  • Highly Preferred- Knowledge of traction power systems, including substations, rectifiers, switchgear, and related components.

Employees should have experience with, use appropriately and encourage others to use Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) in the appropriate areas of our operation.


For general office areas with LIGHT duty, employees should be able to exert or lift up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and up to 5 lbs. of force frequently. Both standing and sitting foreseen frequently.
