Description

Under the leadership of Director, Student Life, the Lead, Child Care Assistant, leads the planning, organization, and execution of activities; provides general support and supervision of a care team for infants, toddlers, and pre-school children in a drop-in childcare setting. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment, creativity, and ingenuity to analyze and to resolve problems. Supervision received is general in nature using established procedures and general objectives. Unusual situations or problems are referred to the supervisor for advice. Works closely with other professionals in a team approach.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Child Engagement and Supervision: In collaboration with student employees, provides care of and supervision for children. Responds quickly and directly to children's needs, desires, and messages; adapts responses to children's differing styles and abilities.
Environmental Safety:Keeps order in classrooms and other space assigned; maintains adequate supplies including cleaning equipment and ensures developmentally appropriate toys/tools are available to support and engage children providing a fun, safe environment.
Child Observation and Oversight: Keeps alert to signs of distress in children and relays pertinent information to parent or guardian; serves as a Mandatory Reporter per College Policy
Student Employee Functional Oversight: Hires student workers, provides relevant training, creates employee schedules, and guides the work performed by student employees on a regular basis.
Reports and Record-keeping:Keeps sign-in sheets, waivers, notes, inventories, and other data pertaining to the division; prepares related reports as required or assigned. Maintains records in accordance with college record retention policy.
Customer Service & Collaboration: Provides leadership for customer service standards including systems & direct services. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on behalf of the center. Maintains confidentiality in accordance with College policies.
Continuous Learning & Professional Development: Maintains current knowledge of best practices and standards. Participates in training and workshops to increase knowledge, awareness, and practice.
Other duties: Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.


Qualifications

Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirements, and MATC policies and procedures. Candidate must be able to pass a Caregiver Background Check.

Required Education & Experience:
  • A High School Diploma/GED
  • One (1) year of childcare experience
The following Licenses /Certifications are required to be obtained after 30 days of employment:
  • CPR/First Aid/AED (for infants/pediatrics) certified;
  • Abusive Head Trauma Prevention Certificate
  • Mandated Reporter Training Certificate
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Effective child guidance and center management skills.
  • Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
  • Knowledge of child development stages.
  • Working knowledge of health and safety standards as they apply to children in childcare centers.
  • Alertness and judgment to detect and prevent situations to possible injury or death.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well with students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • Ability to follow and understand oral and written instructions and to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
  • Strong self-motivation and ability to work as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with culturally diverse populations and promote a positive working environment.

Supplemental Information

Start Date This position is available to start January 2026 and has an end date of June 30, 2026

Hours This is a full-time position Monday - Friday. * Work hours and location are subject to change based on departmentmental needs.

Compensation Salary pay rates are listed up to the midpoint of the range and placement is determined based on years of experience, internal salary equity, and a review of the applicant's employment and educational background as listed on the job application.
