Position Summary

The Customs Brokerage Manager manages the customs brokerage activities and functions as the broker of record for all custom brokerage functions at their designated location. The Customs Brokerage Manager ensures compliance with Customs regulations through entry audit and proper training of staff. The Customs Brokerage Manager is also responsible to manage the Foreign Trade Zone operations and directs compliance of bonded Warehouse operations.



Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Manage import compliance audit program in the Branch and implement department policies/ controls procedures to assure compliance is continually maintained:
    • Conduct audits and assess import compliance and foreign trade zone operations with US Customs laws and regulations.
    • Stay abreast of current import CHB/CBP and other government agency regulations to ensure compliance.
    • Ensure JSOX compliance.

  • Responsible to US Customs as the Port qualifying licensed broker for Yusen Logistics:
    • Interface with government agencies and maintains positive relationships.
    • Maintain customer bond and power of attorney records.
    • Perform post entry work required to correct errors prior to filing.
    • Creates draft for a binding ruling requested on a client's commodity; prepares written submission on behalf of clients.
  • Train and develop staff:
    • Provide interpretation and guidance of CBP and other government agency regulations and ensures compliance with US specific importing regulations.
    • Provide classification advice.
    • Monitor productivity and audit accuracy and timeliness of entries.
  • Facilitate new business acquisition and account development related to full range of customs services.
    • Provide direction to Warehouse Managers to ensure company compliance with Federal regulations governing Container Stations, Bonded Warehouse, and the Foreign Trade Zone Warehouse operations.
    • Provide quotes for potential Bonded Warehouse business opportunities, adding any additional requirements to ensure compliance with customs regulations.
  • Ensure maximum client satisfaction through interaction with clients and other company business units.
    • Ensure seamless new customer on board set up and process.
    • Plan and establish customized logistics programs for new customers as needed.
    • Conduct VIP Account Compliance audit.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; 4-year college degree preferred.
  • Customs Broker license required, along with 5 or more years' experience in the customs broker industry as well as management experience.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills with the ability to grasp extensive knowledge while dealing with a variety of people.
  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must have the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to work under pressure in an unsupervised environment.
  • Must have the ability to compose letters, memos, emails and other written documentation clearly and concisely.
  • Must be able to present one's self in a highly professional manner with both internal and external customers, vendors, and government officials.
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft office Word, Excel, Outlook.
