Sr. Technical Project Manager - Critical Environments

**This position can be remote (work from home) but would need to live near one of our Data Center markets and be willing to travel up to 30%.

About The Role:

The Regional Sr, Technical Manager is a critical role focused on ensuring the successful planning, design, and implementation of critical infrastructure for data center construction projects. This individual will leverage deep technical expertise in physical infrastructure, including electrical, mechanical (cooling, power, UPS), and network systems, as well as a knowledge of security protocols, compliance standards, and construction processes, to provide guidance and oversight throughout the project lifecycle.

The Regional Sr, Technical Manager will play a pivotal role in reviewing project plans, assessing means and methods for construction, participating in the procurement and bid process for resources and equipment, and providing critical coaching and mentorship to project teams. This role involves overseeing the technical aspect of multiple projects, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery while maintaining safety and quality standards.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in data center components, including electrical systems (switchgear, generators, UPS), cooling (HVAC), mechanical systems, and network hardware while having the ability to manage complex projects, foster team growth, and communicate effectively. This position will work in close collaboration with onsite project managers, supervisors, and foreman to coordinate technician work force planning, resource dissemination and coordination, general oversight of field operations while providing technical direction to project teams

What You'll Do:

Technical Oversight and Quality Assurance:

  • Review of scope of works, assist in the development of how to execute data center projects, including electrical, mechanical, structural, and network infrastructure.
  • Review engineering, design implementation plans and project drawings, Scope of work to ensure alignment with industry standards and project requirements to meet project goals.
  • Perform regular quality checks throughout the construction process to guarantee adherence to specifications and quality standards.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on troubleshooting and resolving complex data center infrastructure issues and challenges.
  • Develop and implement the best practices for Technical Project Delivery

Means and Methods Review:

  • Develop, Analyze and evaluate proposed construction to ensure efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards.
  • Define and recommend optimal installation techniques, considering factors like terrain, environmental conditions, and budget constraints.
  • Ensure proper installation and protection of critical OSP components, buried underground infrastructure, placement of sub-ducting and installation of fiber optic cabling.

Bid and Resource Management:

  • Participate in the bid process for data center construction projects, assisting in the technical evaluation of proposals and resource allocation.
  • Provide expert recommendations on the selection of resources, equipment, and materials based on quality, cost, and adherence to industry standards.

Coaching and Mentoring:

  • Coach and mentor project managers, technical managers, data center technicians, and project site teams on best practices, technical skills, and industry knowledge.
  • Provide constructive feedback, guidance, and support to enhance team performance and foster professional development.
  • Conduct regular site visits based on project proximity, maintaining awareness of the full project scope. Communicate work order changes to the PM and assist in managing project close-out activities (testing, as-builts).
  • Lead workshops and presentations to share expertise and facilitate knowledge transfer within the organization.

Qualifications

Demonstrate expertise in MEP systems, including design coordination and field implementation. Ability to review, interpret and challenge engineering designs.

Education & Experience

  • 10 to 15 years in responsible charge of Tier 2, 3 or 4 Data Center(s) or mission critical environment.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from four-year College or University preferred; or 10 to 15 years related technical experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Potential for up to 30% travel

This position does not provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Estimated compensation for this position:

160,000.00 - 180,000.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
