Job Summary:

The Quality & Safety Data Program Manager is the Department of Surgery's lead Business Intelligence professional. They are responsible for data stewardship, management, reporting, visualization & dashboarding, and planning, organizing, and managing data analytics, process improvement, and project management activities. The Quality & Safety Data Program Manager works independently and under minimal supervision to create and maintain reports and dashboards, and to perform analyses using these tools. The Quality & Safety Data Program Manager collaborates closely with key stakeholders in the Department to ensure the intelligence and analyses are accurate, user-friendly, and impactful. To work independently, the Quality & Safety Data Program Manager must have intimate knowledge of Epic (including but not limited to OpTime, Anesthesia, Clarity, Caboodle, Clinical, Access, Willow, and Revenue Data Models), Vizient, and RedCap. The overall goal of this position is to work closely with the Vice Chair of Quality Improvement and advance the Department's capacity for data-driven decision-making in key domains to deliver informational insights (dashboards, reports, etc.) that support clinical decision making, drive process improvement, and ultimately assist in achieving the vision of "improving the lives of our patients, their families, our department team members, our community, and the world."

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and mature a QI Analytics Strategy that aligns with our Vision and Mission, and which drives the utilization of analytics throughout a variety of UCHealth and University of Colorado Surgery Department service lines

  • Lead or participate in initiatives that provide relevant and timely data, strengthen trust, and keep our services at the forefront of our stakeholders' minds

  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure analytics are relevant, timely, and empower teams to make data-driven decisions

  • Drive data governance best practices to assure our data is as relevant and as accurate as possible

  • Conduct or attend presentations on reports to leadership or others as requested.

  • Manage the work

  • Successfully managing all current and future work

  • Responsible for the quality, direction, and outcomes of said work

  • Manage the Project Request Process and Project Delivery Framework to assure all work meets or exceeds expectations, is completed on time, and is of the highest quality

  • Maintain clear and frequent communications with all project stakeholders

  • Work directly with stakeholders on future projects

  • Manage the technology

  • Ensure a high degree of data ownership and control for all related data.

  • Continuously evaluate future trends in analytics to ensure the best, most relevant advancements are evaluated and utilized.

  • Utilize our EHR (Epic), as well as outside sources of information, to enrich the value and usefulness of our analytics.

  • Work with various partners for best-in-class architecture, design, and evolution of data needs.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Remain up to date on key trends in business intelligence, clinical operations & quality, and data analytics.

  • Primary point of contact for data inquiries

  • Individual contributor in pulling reports, building dashboards, analyzing data, and providing insights to stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of others' data services available throughout campus when appropriate to hand off inquiries

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in a business (e.g., Finance, Accounting), healthcare administration (e.g., Public Health, Healthcare Administration), quantitative (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics), or scientific (e.g., Engineering, Psychology) field.

  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

  • Epic certifications in Cogito, Clarity, Caboodle, and Clinical Data Model

  • Minimum 3 years of experience creating reports, dashboards, and analytics using SQL, Power BI, Tableau, and automation tools (Power Automate, DAX, VBA, Python, R) within large healthcare organizations

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master's or doctorate degree, including coursework in business intelligence, mathematics, statistics, and/or data analysis.

  • Experience with non-Epic enterprise data warehouses using various database technologies such as Microsoft and Oracle.

  • Experience creating and maintaining stored procedures, tables, scheduled jobs, and other database artifacts.

  • Experience with research methods, data gathering, and dissemination.

  • Experience in surgical data preferred.

  • Experience in academic medicine is highly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced-level knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL).

  • Advanced-level knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Outstanding customer service skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

  • Knowledge of the Microsoft 365 suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams

  • High level of analytical ability.

  • Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.

  • Ability to navigate competing priorities and demands from interested parties.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $82,237-$104,605

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
