Job Description

KOMU 8 News is looking to add a TV News Anchor to its team of on-air talent. If you are smart, driven, collaborative and have a strong desire to win, we have a great job waiting for you!

News anchors at KOMU 8 are not only the face of our local news broadcasts, but they are also involved in coverage planning, reporting, and community outreach. Our anchors develop, research, write, shoot, and edit their own stories. They are also involved in coaching, mentoring, and sometimes teaching of students. The ideal candidate has both reporting and anchoring experience. Investigative storytelling skills would be a big bonus.

News anchors are also expected to be engaged in the local community. We are looking for someone who has a strong social media presence and a willingness to engage with others through social media.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Anchor afternoon and evening newscasts, including presenting, researching, writing and editing stories relevant to mid-Missouri audiences
  • Produce original stories for television, digital and social platforms
  • Mentor and supervise student producers, reporters, and production assistants assigned to the newscast
  • Develop, research, and report a recurring franchise that can be cross-promoted and shared across multiple newscasts
  • Maintain an active, authentic social media presence that engages audiences and follows industry best practices
  • Represent KOMU 8 News in the community through appearances, speaking engagements and other outreach opportunities
  • Perform other newsroom duties as assigned

KOMU 8 is an NBC and CW affiliate proudly owned by the University of Missouri serving the Columbia-Jefferson City, MO market. It is the only network affiliated television station with a dual mission of informing the public and serving as the premier training ground for television journalists with the prestigious Missouri School of Journalism.

KOMU 8 is an award-winning, nationally recognized news organization working to share impactful and important stories on all platforms. The station also supports community interests through various public service efforts throughout the year.

Shift

Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with some evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 to 5 years of experience with news anchoring and reporting
  • Experience with Investigative Storytelling
  • Strong social media presence and engagement
  • Ability to shoot and edit stories on their own
Anticipated Hiring Range

Hiring Salary Range: $50,000 - $80,000
Grade: GGS-MKT
University Title: SENIOR ON-AIR TALENT TELEVISION
