Job Title: Senior Portfolio Advisor

What is the opportunity?

The Portfolio Advisory Group's mandate is to enable RBC Wealth Management Advisors to consistently deliver investment solutions to their clients with the highest level of competency and confidence in the areas of Investment Advice/Service, Portfolio Management, and Thought Leadership.

The Senior Portfolio Advisor role is on the U.S. Equities team that is part of the broader Portfolio Advisory Group. The U.S. Equities team manages 6 equity Guided Portfolios across key investment factors such as dividends, growth, core, value, and international, in addition to being a key touchpoint for RBC advisors pertaining to their equity book of business. The Senior Portfolio Advisor provides professional portfolio management on the Guided Portfolios, plus service and support to RBC advisors relating to equity securities. You will play an important role in equity portfolio management solutions and maintaining visibility with our RBC advisor community.

What will you do?

  • Collaborate as an Investment Committee member on the management of Guided Portfolio: All Cap Growth.
  • Conduct research on individual companies, formulate equity portfolio construction, and collaboratively manage overall investment strategy.
  • Process a wide-array of research, news, reports, investment publications and company/analyst meetings to form independent investment opinions with due consideration to risks.
  • Conduct in-depth research, available from a variety of sources, to evaluate the relative value of equity securities to gain a detailed understanding of all available investment opportunities and develop actionable investment ideas.
  • Serve as a thought-leader for the team from an investment perspective as it applies to individual securities, sector views and portfolio positioning.
  • Champion the team's thoughts for RBC advisors through written commentary, conference call participation, and speaking engagements.
  • Build personal relationships and provide proactive service to RBC advisors. Provide timely and thoughtful responses to RBC advisors seeking advice with respect to equity securities.
  • Serve as a knowledge base regarding RBC Capital Markets research and other research partners.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with RBC Capital Markets analysts.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Professional experience investing in or analyzing growth stocks.
  • Combination of MBA and CFA, or possess one designation while in the process of obtaining the other.
  • 10+ years direct industry experience in financial services with 5-7 years in portfolio management or equity research. Demonstrated investment knowledge of the capital markets and global economy.
  • Strong understanding of the intricacies of the equity markets and equity portfolio management.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members and create model portfolios that reflect the views of the group and adhere to the investment mandate.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong and visible sense of judgement and confidence in knowledge of the market and ability to offer sound advice.
  • Strong ability to interact with all levels of staff. Must be able to maintain relationships that will relate to the overall success of the established firm goals.
  • Ability to generate unique ideas and analysis using disparate information to incorporate into an investment decision.
  • Required Licensing: Series 7, 63 or 66, or ability to obtain.

Nice-to-have

  • Ability to understand the Financial Advisor's business and identify themes and issues that can have an impact on their business.
  • Experience working as part of a geographically diverse team.
  • Working knowledge of analytical and market research tools including Morningstar, FactSet, and Bloomberg.

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $90,000- $160,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs.This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
