Role Description:

The Global Business Development (GBD) summer intern will join a dynamic team focused on advancing ASTM International's strategic initiatives and global partnerships. Working 20-35 hours per week in a hybrid setting (remote and/or at the DC or HQ offices as needed), the intern will support the GBD team by:

  • Assisting with research projects and assignments related to business development opportunities and industry trends.
  • Gathering and synthesizing business intelligence on assigned topics, markets, or target organizations.
  • Updating contacts, accounts, and corporate hierarchies in the CRM system to ensure data accuracy and support outreach efforts.
  • Utilizing in-house reporting tools and business systems to collect and organize information on standards and training-related activities.
  • Providing analysis and preparing concise reports or presentations for the team as assigned.

This position is designed for a rising junior or senior undergraduate student with a strong interest in business, marketing, or management. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, professional environment.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain familiarity with ASTM's mission, structure, and the role of the Global Business Development (GBD) team within the organization.
  • Conduct research projects on assigned topics, delivering concise summaries that highlight key findings and their relevance to ASTM's business development strategy.
  • Collect and synthesize business intelligence on specific markets, organizations, or technologies, producing actionable insights for the GBD team.
  • Accurately update and maintain contacts, accounts, and corporate hierarchies in the CRM system, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
  • Utilize in-house reporting tools and business systems to gather, organize, and present information on standards and training-related activities.
  • Analyze data and trends related to standards and training, preparing clear reports or dashboards for team use.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations effectively in both written and verbal formats, adapting style for different audiences.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and work independently in a hybrid or remote environment.
  • Build professional relationships with colleagues, exhibiting strong listening and collaboration skills.
  • Represent ASTM professionally in all interactions, upholding the organization's brand and values.

General Responsibilities:

  • Assist GBD team with research projects and assignments
  • Obtain business intelligence on assigned topics or targets
  • Update contacts, accounts and corporate hierarchies in the CRM system
  • Utilize in-house reporting tools and business systems to gather information on existing standards and training related activities
  • Provide analysis as assigned

Education:

Must be enrolled in a related Bachelor's degree program as a rising Junior or Senior at an accredited College or University.

Key Requirements & Competencies:

  • Rising Junior or Senior with a concentration in Business or Marketing
  • Background in Business or Management with a strong interest in business development.
  • Knowledge working with IT systems and MSFT Office.
  • Must have exceptional high quality written and spoken English skills.
  • Must be able to set priorities and communicate effectively in a high volume environment.
  • Self starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Good communicator and good listener - strong ability to build a rapport with colleagues.
  • Well organized. Good planner. Attention to detail.
  • Professional image: Candidate will represent the ASTM brand and may be outward facing at times.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent and close visual work at desk or computer.
  • Frequent sitting and working at desk.
  • Frequent verbal and written communication with team and other stakeholders by phone or video conferencing.

Time Requirements & Compensation:

  • Hybrid - 2 or 3 days in the West Conshohocken or Washington D.C Office
  • 35 hours per week, June through August.
  • Compensation: $18.00/Hour
