What You'll Do

The Piping Line Supervisor for Projects Engineering provides leadership, technical direction, and oversight to Piping Design Engineers. Responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and safety awareness, flow down of goals, performance reviews, time card approvals, setting priorities/expectations and integrating work within the supervised organization. Monitors department workload and ensures the performance of the organization's execution of established scope, budget, and schedule. Advises management of staffing needs necessary to address both forecast and emerging workload. Leads Piping Design Engineers in the development of budgets, proposals, cost estimates, schedules, design deliverables, reports and other documents required to meet project needs. The candidate will possess excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to energize, organize, and lead groups of engineering personnel. Develops and maintains qualified technical resources to execute projects in support of the Y12 mission.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET degree plus a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.

  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.   • A Professional Engineering License (PE) in the State of Tennessee or the ability to gain and maintain a PE in the State of Tennessee.

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Master's degree in Engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET.
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience
  • Knowledgeable of Y12 engineering procedures, resources, practices, processes, and policies needed to solve problems and accomplish work
  • Skills in effective planning, writing, organization, communication, schedule compliance, personnel management and design management
  • Technical expertise and full knowledge of related engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering and construction methods and materials
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to various engineering disciplines
  • Ability to read and/or interpret complex engineering drawings
  • Ability to conduct formal presentations to plant personnel and other interested parties
  • Ability to present information clearly and effectively through the oral and written word

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.


This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712), which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
