Job Title: Operational Resilience & Business Continuity Manager

Division: BSS - Change Management

Reports To: Group Head of Change

Key Relationships: All IT, Compliance, Procurement, Data Management, Risk Management, Commercial Management, Talent Management, General Management and Underwriting and Claims Operation Staff, Operational Resilience Committee, Suppliers

Job Summary: Shared responsibility for Beazley's implementation of the Operational Resilience regulatory requirements in all regions and platforms that Beazley operates. Contribute to all aspects of Operational Resilience and Business Continuity across Beazley, ensuring that resilience-by-design principles are embedded across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the existing Operational Resilience & Business Continuity team to keep the Operational Resilience and Business Continuity strategy up to date, ensuring the appropriate practices and framework are implemented and reviewed on an ongoing basis.
  • Monitor resilience of our Important Business Services (IBSs) and critical resources, including the development and monitoring of metrics across IBS and Critical resources
  • Contribute to the creation of the annual Operational Resilience Self-Assessment to ensure senior management teams have an accurate and accessible assessment of our resilience position which also meets regulatory requirements
  • Lead operational resilience testing strategy in agreed territories and develop a testing roadmap with the Operational Resilience team and relevant business areas to review and document the resilience and recovery options in the event of "severe but plausible disruption" scenarios; determining whether the test is passed or failed.
  • Undertake reviews of Beazley's key third-party suppliers, vendors and outsource providers to ensure that Operational Resilience controls are in place and requirements are being met. Work with the Procurement team to ensure the appropriate controls and measures are available to manage contracts and material outsource/supplier questionnaires;
  • Work with Beazley change functions to ensure that operational resilience requirements are embedded in all projects, change programmes, processes and systems;
  • Work with the CISO team to ensure that Operational Resilience requirements are aligned with and factored into Beazley's Information Security Strategy.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key heads of departments and service owners and ensure all operational resilience matters are managed effectively.
  • Assist with any other operational, financial, business recovery and resilience matters and regulations as required.
  • Attend and input into the Incident Management Working Group meetings, and take responsibility for oversight through to conclusion of Business Continuity incidents/events.
  • Contribute to the development of and implement a test strategy for Beazley's Business Continuity plans.
  • Work with the Risk Management function to ensure an effective solution is in place for logging, managing, reporting on and learning from incidents.
  • Drive the development of department-level business continuity plans, working closely with department leaders
  • Contribute to the Business Impact Assessment strategy and assist with the creation of a BIA framework aligned with the Operational Resilience framework.
  • Liaison with regulators on Operational Resilience related matters, ensuring our processes and controls for events are aligned with their requirements and expectations as appropriate;
  • Responsible for timely completion of all regulatory returns associated with Operational Resilience and Business Continuity
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key executive and board members and ensure all operational resilience and business continuity matters are included in the provision of regular board training;
  • Act as an internal subject matter expert and consultant to our business stakeholders.

  • Comply with any specific responsibilities necessary for your role as outlined by your line manager, the Talent Management development or assurance teams (compliance, risk, internal audit) and ensure you keep up to date with developments in these areas. This may include, amongst others, Beazley's underwriting control standards, Beazley's claims control standards, other Beazley standards and customer relationship management.
  • Ensure that you uphold the Beazley principle of Treating Customers Fairly.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through your objectives or through the learning management system. These may include, among others, European Strategy Team, US Management team or membership of any Beazley committees.

Personal Specification:

Education and Qualifications

  • Degree level educated, or equivalent work experience
  • Appropriate professional qualifications or certifications such as:
    • UK: Certification from the Business Continuity Institute (e.g. CBCI, MBCI or FBCI)
    • US: Certification from the Disaster Recovery Institute (e.g. CBCP, MBCP or CFCP)
    • UK: Institute of Risk Management Certificate or Diploma in Operational Risk or Operational Resilience.
    • US: RIMS Certified Risk Management Professional
    • ISO 22301 Certified Business Continuity Professional, Lead Implementer, Lead Auditor
    • ITIL Foundation

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in development and implementation of a robust business continuity program
  • Demonstrable track record of leading Business Continuity programmes large matrixed global organization
  • The ability to prioritise work and deliver results in a pressurised environment, through tactical and strategic planning.
  • The ability to manage significant client contact, providing expert advice which demonstrates judgement and an understanding of the business.
  • A demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships with internal clients.
  • The ability to provide support to more senior roles in developing key client relationships through the design of leading edge technologies.
  • Self-motivation, with an ability to work with high degree of autonomy and to be results-driven with a flexible approach to working.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of constituencies.
  • An understanding of the various operational resilience and business continuity regulatory requirements that Beazley is subject to, in the UK, the US and around the world.
  • The ability to communicate technical and regulatory concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical staff and management.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledgeable and conversant with the principles set out in Operational Resilience regulations
  • The ability to analyse, understand, recommend, manage, develop and implement solutions and processes for complex and conflicting demands.
  • Experience in financial services is highly desirable, but not required.
  • Experience in the insurance industry is desirable but not required.
  • Multi-country experience (i.e., beyond UK, and ideally including US) is highly desirable, but not required.
  • Knowledge of the impact of regulation on business continuity matters

Salary for this role will be tailored to the successful individual's location and experience. The expected compensation range for this position is $120,000-$135,000 per year plus discretionary annual bonus.
