2026 Summer Intern - Public Affairs & Access: Employee Communications & Engagement (Corporate Communications)

Department Summary

Public Affairs & Access is a multi-disciplinary organization that includes Access Solutions & Patient Support; Channel & Contract Management; Corporate Communications; External Affairs; Patient Strategy; Policy, Evidence, & Access Strategy; and Strategic Business Operations. Our mission is to drive positive change in the healthcare system so that every patient can access our science. We lead the development of meaningful partnerships, forward-looking pricing, contracting and distribution strategies, and proactive policy solutions that advance a more equitable and hopeful future for all of those who need our therapies.

This position is based in South San Francisco, CA, On-Site.

The Opportunity

The Employee Communications and Engagement team (ECE) within Genentech's Corporate Communications team is seeking a summer intern to support our work in internal communications, employee engagement and employee giving and volunteerism. The intern will also be encouraged to gain cross-functional experience across Public Affairs & Access to better understand how we leverage our communications, market access, government affairs, and externally-facing capabilities to drive impact for our patients, our people, and our communities where we live and work. Interns will have peer-to-peer support, networking opportunities, and career development opportunities with other interns in Public Affairs & Access as well as throughout Genentech.

Each year, ECE plans and leads Genentech Gives Back, a beloved annual tradition where employees come together to support nonprofit organizations in our communities through volunteering and giving. To date, we have volunteered more than 133,810 hours and contributed over $5.5 million through grants and individual employee contributions during Genentech Gives Back.

  • Developing web, email and social media style content

  • Designing visual assets such as videos and event promos

  • Attending volunteer events to take photos and develop stories for digital channels

  • Supporting & partnering with workstream leads on event execution

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are May 11 or May 18, 2026

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Requirements)

Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree, or must have attained a Bachelor's degree (recent graduates not currently enrolled in a grad program)

  • Must be pursuing a Master's degree or must have attained a Master's degree

Required majors: Communications, Journalism, Digital Media, Marketing, Organizational Communications

Required Skills:

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion

  • Proficiency with Google Suite

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Digital / social media skills

  • Event planning experience

  • Experience with Wordpress, Canva or other web or digital design platforms

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $24- $40/hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
