Your Role on the Team

The position of Nurse Practitioner II in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care, requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be immersed in Perioperative Anesthesia Care. The nurse practitioner II under the supervision of an attending anesthesiologist physician (Medical Program Director, Irvine Campus Medical Director) and in accordance with standardized procedures and applicable policies and procedures will participate in the comprehensive care of patients in the ambulatory or inpatient settings and provide multi-disciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians. A Nurse Practitioner is an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) who possesses the advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills and experience necessary to provide advanced nursing care in their area of specialization.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • California RN and Nurse Practitioner License AGACNP or ACNP Current Active, Unrestricted Furnishing License and DEA Registration Active National Provider Identifier (NPI) BLS Certification ACLS Certification
  • Educational training and/or experience to support setting and patient population.
  • Must successfully complete the UCI Medical Center credentialing/privileging process
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System.
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with physicians, nurses, other paramedical personnel, administrators, emergency and law enforcement officers.
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently assess, diagnose, and treat patients with acute and chronic problems
  • Must be able to clearly communicate medical information to a broad variety of people, both in person and over the telephone.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes. Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
  • Ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment and procedures.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and adheres to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies and procedures related to Protected Health Information (PHI) or other sensitive and personal information.
  • Current, active, unrestricted California Registered Nurse license.
  • Current, active, unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner license.
  • Current, active, unrestricted Furnishing license and DEA registration.
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • NP National Board Certification (Beginning February 2018): Adult Gerontology Acute Care AGACNP-BC or ACNPC-AG
  • Current ACLS Certification.
  • BLS Certification
  • Six months of experience as Nurse Practitioner

Preferred:

  • Prior experience taking care of patients with acute care in an ambulatory care center.
  • Prior experience in an intensive care unit.
  • Prior and relevant Perioperative / Peri-Anesthesia experience.
  • Prior and relevant experience managing acute, post-operative pain
  • Prior experience taking care of patients in an emergency or trauma department.
  • Prior experience taking care of post-surgical patients.
  • Ability to assess pediatric patients within the scope of the NP practice and national board certification.
