THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's District 8-0 Office looking for an enthusiastic college student to serve as a summer intern in the District Press Office for 2026. In this role, you will play a key part in planning, developing, and executing media strategies that showcase our engineering advancements as well as address non-engineering safety concerns and initiatives. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The District Press Office plays a crucial role in initiating, coordinating, and executing non-engineering safety initiatives within the district. As a Press Office Intern, you will contribute to the planning, development, and implementation of media strategies that showcase PennDOT's engineering advancements as well as non-engineering safety concerns and activities. This internship will enhance your academic experience and equip you for future career paths by deepening your understanding of public service and the intricacies of government operations. Internship opportunities associated with this posting will be for Engineering District 8 which consists of Adams, Franklin, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time internship that will run from May 2026 through August 2026
  • Work hours will vary based on position
  • Travel may be required
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled or intending to enroll full-time or part-time in a two-year degree, bachelor's degree, or advanced degree program.
    • Acceptable majors: Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, and English/Literature, but Marketing, Political Science
  • Must be a Pennsylvania resident or currently enrolled at a Pennsylvania college or university.
  • In good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must attach a current unofficial transcript or proof of enrollment to on-line application.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
