Vice President, Clinical Oncology Project Management

Job Overview:

This role will exhibit strong leadership, maintain a keen focus on future growth opportunities and industry trends, and position the organization to adapt to market shifts and maintain a competitive edge.

To strengthen global delivery, this position will also be assigned responsibility for overseeing APAC project delivery outside of China, ensuring consistency and operational excellence across regions.

The Vice President, of Oncology serves as the senior operational and strategic leader within Global Project Management. This role integrates portfolio oversight with direct management of project teams, driving strong and consistent execution, financial performance, and client satisfaction. The VP champions operational excellence and therapeutic innovation, influencing enterprise-wide strategy through leadership of a therapeutically aligned project management organization.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute the strategic delivery plan for Oncology, ensuring alignment with Fortrea's corporate objectives.
  • Lead portfolio governance and ensure delivery excellence across all clinical trials and programs.
  • Own the P&L for the Oncology portfolio, driving revenue growth, meeting targets, achieving margin goals, and budget adherence.
  • Oversee delivery of all projects within Oncology, ensuring timelines, quality, and regulatory compliance are met or exceeded.
  • Lead resolution of escalated delivery issues and ensure proactive risk management across the portfolio by implementing robust strategies
  • Harmonize project management processes and tools across the Oncology to drive consistency and efficiency.
  • Lead and grow a high performing team of Delivery Directors, Project Managers, and Project Coordinators across the department.
  • Develop scalable staffing models and succession plans to support portfolio growth and talent development.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance management for direct and indirect reports.
  • Serve as executive sponsor for key clients within Oncology, building strategic partnerships.
  • Lead bid defenses, governance meetings, and client forums to represent our capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Business Development to expand the Oncology portfolio.
  • Approve and contribute to proposals, pricing, and operational strategy for new opportunities.
  • Identify emerging therapeutic trends and influence service offerings to meet evolving market needs.
  • All other duties as needed or assigned.

Qualifications (Minimum Required):

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in life sciences, business administration, or related fields. Fortrea may consider relevant and equivalent experience in lieu of educational requirements. Proven strategic leadership, portfolio management, and financial accountability.
  • Expert knowledge of clinical trial operations, regulatory requirements, and therapeutic area expertise.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Masterful knowledge of effective project management practices
  • Strong knowledge of resource management systems
  • Extensive experience with commercial systems and practices including sales and business development strategies and procedures, contracts, and proposals
  • Demonstrated experience leading bid defenses.
  • Mastery of time and cost estimate development and pricing strategies
  • Holistic knowledge of ICH Guidelines and GCP including international regulatory requirements for the conduct of clinical development programs
  • Experience leading large global teams and managing complex portfolios across regions.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, operational delivery, and client engagement.
  • Experience managing P&L and driving growth in a therapeutic portfolio.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and implement process improvements.

Experience (Minimum Required):

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in clinical research, including 10+ years in project management and 5+ years in global team leadership.
  • Experience in Oncology.

Preferred Qualifications Include:

  • Advanced degree in life sciences, business, or related field (MS, MBA, PhD preferred).
  • Expert knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean methodologies, and global clinical development practices.
  • Strong commercial acumen and business development experience.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Position may be home-based or office-based in a Fortrea location.
  • Flexibility to participate in client meetings across various time zones.
  • Travel Requirements: Approximately 30% annually, with 80% of travel requiring overnight stays.
  • Travel is primarily global and as required by assignment.
