Job Summary
The Clinical Apps Manager 2 reports to the Executive Director. This position oversees through subordinate managers/supervisors in multiple smaller units and manages a highly specialized technical team. Has significant responsibility to achieve broadly stated goals through subordinate managers/supervisors. Determines objectives, directs programs, develops strategies and policies, manages human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a high degree of autonomy. Proactively assesses risk to establish systems and procedures to protect organizational assets. Determines strategies for programs with organization-wide impact. This position partners with executive and senior leadership to establish strategic plans and objectives surrounding robust software solutions, reporting services, and integrations. This position also provides strategic direction on the communication, training, and change management aspects of implementing a new software solution and business processes. This role manages a dynamic and talented team that challenges each other to reach their full potential and commits to career development and coaching. This position sets the vision, values, and methods, anticipates, and manages obstacles, and measures of the team to foster innovation and continuous improvement.
This position is responsible for ensuring the achievement of objectives with implementation of new software solutions and integrations to achieve optimization and execution of UC Davis Health strategic objectives. Establishes objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate managers. Responsible for managing, preparing, administering, and directing resources. Reviews and approves recommendations for functional programs. Involved in the developing, modifying, and executing policies that affect immediate operation(s) and has campus-wide, Medical Center, or Office of the President effects. - Bachelor's degree and / or equivalent experience / training
- Minimum five (5) years of leadership experience supporting information technology applications and service experience in a healthcare setting.
- Minimum five (5) years of supporting (Patient Access, RTE, Prelude) clinical and/or operational quality improvement initiatives, operations, and efficiency improvement project experience.
- Solid knowledge of Epic Patient Access (Prelude, Cadence), Grand Central (ADT), RTE, and Tapestry module
- Experience with system planning, integration, configuration, and ongoing support.
- Familiarity with clinical and operational workflows related to patient registration, scheduling, eligibility verification, admissions/discharges/transfers, and managed care.
- Understanding of healthcare regulations (HIPAA, CMS, Joint Commission) and compliance requirements.
- Ability to manage Epic implementations, upgrades, and optimization projects, including cross-functional team leadership.
- Awareness of risk management, financial due diligence, and cost control in vendor oversight and contract management.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with clinical, operational, and IT stakeholders.
- Experience developing and managing high-performance teams in a matrix/shared services environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Project Management Professional Certification preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Information Technology or similar discipline
- Preferred seven (7) years of leadership experience supporting information technology applications and service experience in an academic medical center setting.
- Preferred seven (7) years of supporting (Patient Access, RTE, Prelude and Tapestry) clinical and/or operational quality improvement initiatives, operations, and efficiency improvement project experience.
- Extensive hands-on experience with advanced configuration and optimization of Epic Patient Access, Grand Central, RTE, and Tapestry modules.
- Proven track record of successful Epic implementations or upgrades, including complex integrations and data conversions.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic IT initiatives that align Epic systems with organizational goals
- Comprehensive understanding of vendor procurement processes, contract negotiation, and ongoing vendor relationship management.
- Expertise in financial oversight for large-scale projects, including budgeting, cost control, and risk mitigation.
- Strong analytical skills, with experience using Epic reporting tools and KPIs to drive operational improvements.
- Ability to lead organizational change, including training, communication, and adoption strategies for new Epic functionalities.
- Proven ability to recruit, mentor, and retain Epic-certified analysts, project managers, and trainers.
