Plant Controls Engineer

Location: Monroe, Ohio (Onsite - 5 Days/Week)

Worthington Steel is seeking a Plant Controls Engineer to support our manufacturing operations in Monroe, Ohio. This is an outstanding opportunity ideal for a driven engineer with 3-5 years of hands-on PLC programming and troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing environment who enjoys working directly on the plant floor with operators and maintenance teams.

This role is centered on hands-on plant support, ensuring the reliability and performance of our PLCs, HMIs, drives, and industrial networks through direct troubleshooting and rapid problem solving. Working side-by-side with maintenance and operations, the Plant Controls Engineer delivers practical automation improvements that strengthen safety, elevate quality, and maximize equipment uptime.

Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls, Automation Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 3-5 years of hands-on PLC programming and troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing environment (required)
  • Strong working knowledge of PLC platforms (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley preferred)
  • Experience with HMIs, VFDs, servos, instrumentation, and industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, etc.)
  • Experience working directly in a plant environment alongside operators
  • Ability to work onsite in Monroe, Ohio five days per week


Working Conditions:



  • Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to noise, heat, and moving equipment
  • Occasional off-shift or weekend support may be required to support operations or project execution
