Primary duties of the East Region Freight Rail Environmental Lead are to:

  • Take responsibility for regional development, coordination, monitoring and improvement of technical competencies of business class staff and products to meet client needs and market drivers
  • Oversee the delivery of project services and deliverables to meet client expectations.
  • Collaborate on business class efforts with company operations, marketing and management.
  • Develop client relationships to grow existing business and attract new business.
  • Build and develop an internal network and project teams.
  • Plan and direct medium- to large-sized environmental planning and compliance projects for a variety of freight rail transportation projects.
  • Perform complex assignments, making independent decisions on problems and methods
  • Prepare, pla,n and analyze/review technical studies, permit applications, NEPA documents, and similar reports/documents
  • Accomplish work independently and through coordinating or supervising small to large technical and professional teams from local and regional offices.
  • Support regional or national projects in specific areas of technical expertise.
  • Be closely involved in public participation and multiple agency coordination.
  • Take responsibility for project management, including developing and managing budgets, schedules, and the quality of products.
  • Serve as Project Manager on larger projects as needed, but project management is not the sole focus of the position.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in the Freight Rail Industry, leading projects of various sizes
  • Environmentally related certifications are a plus.
  • Experience leading large-scale and long-term projects.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific challenges and trends.
  • Ability to build and develop a project delivery team.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years experience in related field
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other business class regional directors, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
