Unit Secretary - WCH Cancer Care (Oncology)

Waldo County General Hospital

Location: 112 Northport Avenue, Belfast, ME - WGH Cancer Care
Schedule: 32 hours/week, 8-hour day shifts
Shift Rotation: Weekly rotation between 8:00am-4:30pm and 8:30am-5:00pm

About the Role

Waldo County General Hospital is seeking a dedicated and organized Nursing Unit Secretary to support our Cancer Care (Oncology) team. In this vital role, you will provide clerical, receptionist, and patient transport support to ensure smooth daily operations and exceptional patient care.

As the first point of contact for patients and families, you will help create a welcoming environment while supporting clinical staff with essential administrative tasks. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative, patient-centered environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical and administrative support to the Oncology unit
  • Greet patients, families, and visitors; assist with checkin and wayfinding
  • Answer and route phone calls promptly and professionally
  • Coordinate patient records, charts, and documentation
  • Support scheduling and communication needs for the care team
  • Transport patients within the department when needed
  • Assist with coordination of daily unit flow and communication

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: High School diploma or GED preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: Current BLS certification preferred or may be required based on location.
  3. Experience: One year of hospital or health care setting preferred.
