Job Summary

The ICS Technician supports UC Davis Health low-voltage and cable plant infrastructure across clinical, administrative, and data center environments. This role is responsible for installing, testing, maintaining, and documenting network, voice, fiber, and overhead paging (OHP) systems. Responsibilities include drafting Statements of Work (SoWs), maintaining accurate infrastructure documentation, supporting fiber and cabling installations, and performing Level 1 and Level 2 troubleshooting. The position participates in an on-call rotation, responding to system outages and environmental alerts, and works closely with internal teams and vendors to ensure reliable, compliant infrastructure in support of health system operations.

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • 1 Year working in IT healthcare
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in telecommunications infrastructure, including hands-on work with structured cabling systems, paging systems, and network hardware.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience, installing, splicing fiber optic systems
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving AC/DC power systems
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in telecommunications infrastructure, with hands-on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fiber optic, coaxial, and copper cabling systems. The candidate should demonstrate advanced knowledge in Ethernet and fiber optic cable termination, testing, and certification. Strong team collaboration skills are required, including the ability to coordinate effectively with stakeholders and guide cross-functional teams. The role also demands solid project management capabilities to oversee multiple concurrent initiatives, ensuring timely completion and regulatory compliance. Excellent communication skills are necessary for conveying technical information to diverse audiences, both technical and non-technical. Lastly, the candidate must demonstrate adaptability in fast-paced environments and be comfortable with rapidly evolving technologies and shifting priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Panduit PCI Certification
  • BICSI Installer 1 or 2
  • Cisco Networking Basics or approved equal
  • College Degree and/or equivalent horizontal cabling certifications
  • Experience designing, engineering, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting overhead paging systems (both analog and IP).
  • Demonstrated 1 years of experience managing telecom room environments and performing work in compliance with industry standards such as ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and safety regulations. Experience in healthcare or similarly regulated environments is a plus.
  • 3 years of experience, installing, splicing fiber optic systems
  • The ideal candidate should possess strong skills in creating and maintaining technical documentation such as ICRA permits, fiber panel layouts, and network schematics. A solid understanding of physical security protocols for data centers and telecom rooms is essential, along with in-depth knowledge of industry standards including ANSI/TIA-568, IEEE, BICSI, and applicable building codes. The candidate should be well-versed in environmental, electrical, fire, and safety standards for telecom and data center environments, and have working knowledge of Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) procedures, particularly within healthcare settings. Proficiency in the design, installation, and support of fiber optic systems is essential. Experience with rack and stack principals, and the integration into enterprise telecom environments is highly desirable. A solid understanding of layer 1 and 2 in the OSI stack is required. Technical expertise should include configuration and deployment of telecom IT hardware such as PDUs, and IP surveillance systems. Familiarity with Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) and Network Management (Orion) systems, including environmental and power monitoring tools, is preferred. Strong Understanding of OSI model.

The Infrastructure Cabling Services (ICS) team at UC Davis Health plays a vital role in powering the physical backbone of one of California's top academic medical centers. We are responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining all low-voltage cabling systems that support clinical operations, research, and administration across more than six million square feet of serviceable space.

Our work includes managing complex fiber and copper cabling infrastructure, overseeing telecommunications room standards, and supporting mission-critical systems such as Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), Emergency Responder Radio Communication Systems (ERRCS), overhead paging, and clinical communication platforms like CarePoint. ICS team members are hands-on with both legacy and cutting-edge technologies that keep our hospital connected and responsive.

We work closely with construction and facilities teams on major capital projects, ensuring that all infrastructure is built to meet today's needs and tomorrow's innovations. Our team also supports 24/7 operations through a rotating on-call schedule and maintains strict compliance with healthcare codes and standards, including ICRA protocols and low-voltage regulatory requirements.
