The Environmental Manager is responsible for managing overall environmental compliance, including effective and efficient operation of wastewater treatment facilities. This role involves managing staff, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and overseeing the maintenance and operation of treatment processes to ensure the safe and efficient treatment of wastewater.

Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned)

Operational Management:



  • Oversee daily operations of wastewater treatment facilities, including primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment processes.
  • Ensure that treatment processes are operating within established parameters and meeting regulatory standards.
  • Implementing all aspects of environmental compliance including pollution control, waste management, recycling, and sampling.


Staff Management:



  • Supervise and lead a team of technicians.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.


Regulatory Compliance:



  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and standards.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to regulatory agencies across all environmental media.
  • Monitor the implementation of environmental policies and practices and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.


Maintenance and Repairs:



  • Oversee routine maintenance and emergency repairs of equipment and infrastructure associated with wastewater treatment.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures.


Budget and Resource Management:



  • Prepare and manage the budget for the wastewater treatment facility.
  • Procure necessary materials, equipment, and services while controlling costs.


Process Improvement:



  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of treatment operations.
  • Stay updated with technological advancements and industry best practices.


Safety and Environmental Stewardship:



  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the team.
  • Manage environmental impact and promote sustainability initiatives.


Emergency Response:



  • Develop and implement emergency response plans for potential incidents or failures in the treatment process and other environmental scenarios.
  • Coordinate response efforts and communicate with stakeholders during emergencies.

Education Required



  • Bachelor's degree, safety and/or environmental preferred or equivalent experience


Experience Required



  • 2+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 2+ years experience leading or managing a team


Preferred Experience



  • Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), OSHA 1910 General Industry 10-30-hour
  • Experience in analyzing accident data, new processes, and machinery for potential safety concerns and conduct job hazard and job safety analyses
  • Experienced in emergency response and currently holds First aid and CPR certificates
  • Experience in Worker's Compensation case management


Knowledge of:



  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, and Power Point at a minimum) required to accomplish day-to-day work activities and willingness to learn additional programs.
  • Sufficient knowledge of company, products, objectives and operations.


Skilled in:



  • Exceptional analytical, judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective interpersonal, leadership, customer focus skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management and prioritization skills.


Ability to:



  • Ability to communicate health and safety needs to all levels of the organization
  • Ability to successfully balance multiple projects at various stages with limited supervision in a fast-paced, competitive environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with and through others to achieved desired results.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve difficult problems effectively and timely thru the implementation of long-term solutions.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate and resolve conflict.
  • Ability to foster teamwork, collaborations, inspire confidence, and motivate individuals across diverse teams in a manufacturing environment in order to meet objectives.
