2026 Summer Intern - Real-World and Clinical Data Strategy, Data Innovation Group

Department Summary

This internship is based in the Real-World & Clinical Data Strategy (RWCDS) team which drives data excellence and analytics to power enhanced decision-making and evidence-generation within Roche Product Development. We develop and implement data strategies that unlock the value of clinical, operational, and real-world data to accelerate evidence generation, decision-making, and innovation across PD and beyond.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.

The Opportunity

This internship is within the data innovation group of RWCDS. The goal will be to develop novel tools and analytic frameworks to be used by Data Strategy and Analytics specialists as well as Real-World Data Scientists. The use of advanced analytics and AI-powered applications with a "human-in-the-loop" is central to our vision of accelerating the translation of data into actionable evidence.

Responsibilities

The work in the data innovation group is varied and fast-moving, and several unrelated responsibilities may be needed throughout the project:

  • Develop data innovation strategies by partnering with subject matter experts and stakeholders.

  • Build workflows capable of automating complex tasks. For instance, this may involve creating LangChain agents to extract structured data from an AACT API.

  • Design a validation study to evaluate the accuracy of data innovation tools.

  • Prototype an interface to allow scientists to interact with the data innovation tools.

Program Highlights

  • 6 months paid internship, first 12 weeks must be full time (40 hours/week) onsite, while the rest can be either full time or part time, remote or onsite, with the opportunity to extend to up to 9 months.

  • Program start date is in May/June 2026.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education

You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must have attained a Master's Degree within the last year.

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).

  • Must have attained a PhD within the last year.

Required Majors: Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics or related fields.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.

  • Training in computer science, machine learning, data science, or statistics.

  • Industry knowledge: curiosity for drug development in the biotechnology industry and solid background in statistics for clinical trial design.

  • Python proficiency: strong experience with python development.

  • R proficiency: familiarity with R.

  • LLM fundamentals: demonstrated experience building applications with LLMs.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $50.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
