Position Summary

Assist with maintenance of deck operations and perform operational checks and minor repairs as needed across global offshore operations.


Duties And Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL:

  • Assist with deck maintenance and independently carry out various deck department duties.
  • Perform daily maintenance to preserve painted surfaces and maintain lines, perform housekeeping and sanitation duties as required.
  • Serve as a member of the vessel emergency response team.
  • Conduct communications, safety watches, and deck watches when assigned.
  • Report third-party inspections and maintenance findings to the Chief Officer.
  • Measure water depth in shallow or unfamiliar areas and communicate readings to the bridge.
  • Overhaul lifeboats and associated gear and operate launch/retrieval equipment.
  • Splice and repair cables and ropes using hand tools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SECONDARY:

  • Perform lift operations using vessel cranes following approved safe work practices.
  • Conduct routine crane checks to ensure personnel safety and operational reliability.
  • Perform minor crane maintenance and repairs when necessary.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • One to two years of vessel crane and deck operational experience.
  • Knowledge of SMS shipboard procedures.
  • Valid Merchant Mariner's Credential with AB Unlimited endorsement.
  • STCW-95 certification with RFPNW endorsement.
  • Valid TWIC card.

PREFERRED:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Vocational maritime training.
  • Global offshore vessel experience.
  • Crane certification, including knuckle boom crane certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position is considered OFFSHORE WORK which is characterized as follows:

  • Outdoors and indoors, day and night, as well as over/in water.
  • Requires working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
  • Frequently the humidity is above 90%, noise is over 85 decibels and the light is intense/glare.
  • Potential exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.
  • Constant exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases.
  • Work surface is stable, height is elevated.
