Your Job

We are seeking a highly motivated AI / Machine Learning Engineer Intern to support data analysis and machine learning initiatives for optical system development in Fremont, CA. This internship provides hands-on experience applying data-driven techniques to real-world optical products, including optical switching systems and OTDR modules.

The intern will work under the guidance of senior engineers and managers and collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to analyze experimental data and develop machine learning-based tools and algorithms.

What You Will Do

  • Assist in developing data processing and machine learning workflows for optical system test and characterization data
  • Analyze image and signal data to support pattern recognition, anomaly detection, and failure analysis
  • Support calibration and test optimization efforts through data-driven analysis
  • Prototype and evaluate machine learning models for optical system monitoring and event detection
  • Document analysis methods, results, and tools following internal engineering practices
  • Work closely with optical, system, and test engineers to understand system behavior and translate engineering problems into data analysis tasks

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical discipline
  • Solid understanding of machine learning and data analysis concepts
  • Strong programming skills in Python
  • Ability to work with large experimental data and draw meaningful conclusions
  • Strong analytical thinking, curiosity, and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and enthusiastic about contributing in a collaborative R&D environment

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Graduate student (Master's or Ph.D.) preferred
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks or data analysis libraries
  • Experience with deep learning for image analysis
  • Familiarity with image processing or signal processing
  • Interest in optical systems, or hardware-related applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingual with Mandarin

For this role, we anticipate paying $38 per hour.
