Overview

The Transportation Planner is a key role at MV Transportation and whose function is providing advisory and consultative services for our clients who are in need of transportation planning capabilities. The candidate will utilize a technology platform to create and redefine transit, make assessments, and utilize expertise in crafting transit designs and plans for our clients.



Responsibilities

    Studies current transportation systems, analyzing effectiveness, use, and needs.
  • Studies proposed transportation projects, analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the plans.
  • Works as part of the MV Transportation Planning team that includes senior-level experts across transit design and planning and GIS.
  • Will work with an MV proprietary technology platform to provide analysis and recommendations based on findings gathered from that platform and provide recommendations with related subject matter expertise.
  • This role will be integral in helping MV and our clients understand impacts to the operation including route impacts, vehicle capacity needs, and mileage. This will require significant data collection and analysis.
  • This role will also focus on assisting clients with recommendations on new service areas based on geographic or demographic demand.
  • Evaluates the legality of current and proposed transit infrastructure.
  • Drafts reports outlining findings and recommendations.
  • Recommends acceptance, rejection, or modifications for proposed plans.
  • Recommends modifications to current plans to improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, reduce cost, and implement other improvements.
  • May assist clients with writing grants to secure funding for projects.
  • Oversees the implementation of proposed changes and developments.
  • Adheres to timeline and budgetary constraints.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Position will report to the Vice President, Professional Services
  • Up to 25% travel will be required


Qualifications

  • 2+ years as a Transportation Planner in complex transportation systems
  • Critical thinking skills and an ability to communicate complex responses in summary form
  • Strong communication and presentation skills across all levels of leadership within the organization
  • Excellent client engagement skills and ability to build trust through expertise
  • Ability to work well within Microsoft office and related business platforms
  • Must be able to collect significant amounts of data to then analyze and provide recommendations through executive-level summary
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience
