Overview

This position is for the Focus Factory Outfitting Site in Mobile, AL.

Area Superintendent - Alabama

The Strategic Sourcing Program is hiring an Area Superintendent to support Virginia and Columbia CCSM deck outfitting efforts in Mobile, Alabama. The outfitting will be conducted in a Focus Factory environment and include post paint installation of Structural.

The Focus Factory environment consists of supplier personnel being utilized as Embedded EB contractors, provided contractor badges, necessary trade training and access to portions of the business system. The Focus Factory "builds to EB paper" and requires strict adherence to the EB policies, procedures, processes and work packages. The selected candidate will be responsible for the local on-site supervision and support team, oversight of the Embedded contractors, work content, means and methods of outfitting, and execution.

The candidate selected must be highly motivated with strong interpersonal skills and will be responsible for knowledge transfer, project management, managing daily operations, coordinating assistance needed from EB QP and reporting on construction progress, performance and associated metrics. In addition, the individual must have effective problem solving and critical thinking skills and must be able to cultivate and promote a positive TEAM environment.

The selected candidate will be responsible to provide management and technical shipbuilding "know-how" to the EB and Embedded supplier workforce throughout the execution of deck outfitting in the EB "Focus Factory" environment. The Area Superintendent will report to the Site Manager and have reach back to the QP Director of Steel for additional support as required. In addition, the selected candidate with interface with the supplier's senior leadership regarding the performance of safety, quality, cost, schedule, continuous improvement to ensure a culture of excellence is established for any work performed under the EB Quality Management System. Candidates must also possess a proven track record in these areas and strength in communications.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    Must possess energetic and positive attitude and be willing to change and develop as requirements of assigned tasks dictate
  • Manage and direct the daily activities of multiple operations supervisors to achieve department, facility, program and organizational objectives
  • Oversee and manage the technical work execution, safety, quality, cost, schedule, continuous improvement and lessons learned
  • Will be responsible for interfacing with QP's steel fabrication team on a regular basis to communicate a strategic build plan, performance, project support needs and lessons learned
  • Ability to motivate, guide, mentor and oversee first line supervision. Must demonstrate effective steel processing & outfitting problem solving skills
  • Be responsible for the transfer of knowledge to supplier supervision and employees
  • Ensure EB practices, means and methods are taught and employed in performance of the work and will actively guiding and mentor
  • Monitor work orders, sign offs and work package completion. Validate that all work performed is completed and fully compliant to support the product's end use
  • Monitor Operation Supervisors pre-job briefs and job hazard analysis to ensure expectations are established, maintained and held for assigned work
  • Monitor Cornerstone & PQS for required training and certifications compliance prior to the commencement of work. Maintain communication with Strategic Sourcing Training Department for any new/refresh items
  • Ensure EB supervisors promote and adhere to the importance of a strong security posture with embedded supplier personnel. Must diligently manage any sensitive data.
  • Gain the trust and collaboration of the supplier management and embedded personnel. Must assess and make recommendations for employee development and continually promote proficiency in work
  • Work with EB supervisors to monitor and identify issues and refer them to supplier supervision for HR resolution
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with subordinates, supervisors, suppliers and EB leadership
  • Must have the ability to set, assign, and measure daily production goals, provide technical expertise, instruct, mentor and motivate crew
  • Position will be permanently located in Alabama supporting Focus Factory (work to EB paper) programs at an EB supplier facility
  • Employee may be required to work other than normal hours, to include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Shift work and emergency overtime may be required
  • Successful applicants will be placed in a department and shift based on business necessity
  • Must be flexible to travel to additional Focus Factory vendors, Groton, QP and other areas of the business, as required. May require business travel or EWA.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Must be able to relocate to Alabama in the vicinity of the supplier
  • Must have 3 years previous supervisory experience in the trades
  • Must have previous trade experience
  • High School diploma/GED
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Proficient in blueprint and drawing interpretation
  • Experience with Ships Drawings, SSPs, SPs, Technical Manuals, Welding Technique Sheets, EWP, ERS, ERs, NDT, MDDs, SDDs, DIs and SIs
  • Experienced in Computer Skills, MS Office/Word, Power Point and Project
  • Must be available to work all shifts and extended hours as business needs dictate
  • Must be available to travel, as required

Preferred:

  • College Degree. AS/BS degree in Business, Engineering or equivalent
  • 3 years previous supervisory experience in Structural ship fitting and welding
  • 5+ years of shipyard construction experience
  • Experience in Modular Construction/outfitting
  • Experience in multi-trade disciplines is preferred (pipe, electrical, structural, mechanical)
