JOB SUMMARY

Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) are allied health professionals that perform specialized technical and supportive patient care activities to assist healthcare professionals in diagnostic, therapeutic, and research procedures. This role involves preparing and setting up medical supplies and equipment, obtaining patient information, and explaining procedures to ensure comfort and cooperation. PCTs assist in the collection of specimens, recording vital signs, positioning patients, and attaching monitoring equipment. PCTs assist physicians and nurses during procedures by handling instruments and monitoring equipment readings. PCTs operate and maintain diagnostic and laboratory equipment, perform routine calibrations, and ensure proper sterilization of instruments. Additional responsibilities include recording and compiling data, maintaining supply inventories, and performing related duties to support patient care and clinical operations.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Determine, prepare and set up medical supplies and equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
• Explain procedures to patient, allay their fear and elicit cooperation.
• Prepare patients for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to include obtaining specimens and positioning the patient.
• Assist physician and nursing personnel during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures to include, handling instruments and equipment, calling out equipment readings, and handling specimens while maintaining infection control standards.
• Manually clean endoscopes and then perform the proper process to complete high level disinfection of these scopes.
• Distribute supplies as needed and maintain inventory of supplies.
• Assist nurse with transporting the patient into the procedure room and to recovery after the procedure.
• Obtain family members from the waiting room once patient is in recovery, assist patients to restroom when needed and obtain refreshments for patients.
• Clean and dress stretchers in preparation for next patient.
• Clean procedure rooms, including procedural tables, countertops, floor mats and wall suction systems

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Work requires completion of a related 1 year technical school program.
• Work generally requires two years of experience in health care specialties related to the specific position; two years additional years related experience may be substituted for the technical school or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
