DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Landscape Design Intern, you will gain valuable exposure to the many tasks landscape architects and engineers perform for design and construction projects for DCNR. This internship provides a front row seat to learn the process of landscape architecture design and review and site development projects, as well as the necessary steps to efficiently review, oversee, and manage those projects.


Within this role, you will learn some of the key
principles and practices of landscape architectural within design and construction, which permit recognition of the positive aesthetic and functional qualities of a design, impact of design decisions, and the judicious selection of materials for appropriateness, ease of maintenance, economy, life-cycle value, and environmental impact. You will also have the opportunity to shadow meetings with Landscape Architecture staff who consult with the supervisor on project priorities; long- and short-range goals, objectives, and priorities; project proposals; design parameters and proposed solution; and anticipated outcomes to ensure departmental and programmatic goals are achieved.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time internship that will run from 5/1/2026 through 8/28/2026.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on a schedule that aligns with the supervisor in order to be in the office on the same days. No full time telework will be approved for this position. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • Enrollment in good academic standing as a FULL-TIME student in a two-year, bachelor's, or advanced degree program in:
    • Landscape Architecture Major
    • Civil Engineer Major
    • Environmental Engineer Major
  • An approved major course which includes a qualifying 24 credit hours of study in the physical, biological, and environmental sciences may be acceptable.
  • Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)
  • Freshman year completed by May 2026
  • Pennsylvania residency or enrollment of a Pennsylvania college or university

Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
