A Brief Overview
Monitors and establishes quality of lab tests performed at multiple Hospital and Ambulatory satellite locations. Ensures standardized policies, procedures, and best practices are consistently followed. Works directly with CHOP staff with diverse backgrounds to meet this goal. Participates in regulatory inspections to prepare staff and ensure continuing lab accreditation. Has advanced experience and or laboratory training that give this candidate the ability to perform this service in multiple and highly specialized testing locations as assigned. At the direction of the Director and Manager, leads projects for procedure development, product evaluation to ensure cutting edge technology is utilized, quality monitors, regulatory compliance and other technical duties. Prepares policy and procedure manual drafts.

What you will do
  • Keeps abreast of technical developments and regulations.
  • Writes procedures in approved formats, reviews policies and procedures annually, makes recommendations for revisions. Ensures procedure manuals are current in testing locations.
  • Develops logs and charts for standardization and compliance.
  • Refers to regulations and standards to resolve problems or work with Supervisor to establish a process.
  • Reviews and evaluates patient and quality control results, inspects testing environment, and takes corrective action when indicated at the Philadelphia Campus (over 50 locations), King of Prussia Campus (over 10 locations), and satellite physician office labs (over 40 locations).
  • Reports to Lab, Hospital and Ambulatory administration with findings.
  • Utilizes superior problem solving and troubleshooting skills to resolve lab issues with the non-laboratory staff that perform testing.
  • Communicates unresolved or unsafe events to supervisor/manager.
  • Complies with personal protective equipment (PPE) and other laboratory and hospital safety standards 100% of the time.
  • Responsibly controls and maintains inventory.
  • Good knowledge of lab regulations for NJ, PA, CLIA, and standards of Joint Commission and College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation agencies.
  • Prepares testing locations for inspections to ensure accreditation status is maintained.
  • Actively participates in inspections and assists with corrective action when findings are identified.
  • Performs advanced data management functions for patient and QC review for reports and required documentation on a daily basis.
  • Ensures proper billing for lab tests performed. Corrects errors when indicated to ensure accurate patient records.
  • Performs periodic required calibration verifications and result comparisons to ensure POCT results are accurate and maintain the same standard as the Main Labs at both the Philadelphia Campus and King of Prussia Campus.
  • Reviews equipment inspection reports for compliance.
  • Participates in lab initiatives such as CQI, Safety, mandatory and additional education opportunities.
  • Identifies and pursues technical learning needs.
  • Provides professional, courteous and calm customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Trains staff (over 4000 employees) at the hospital and satellite locations to perform tests and maintain their competence assessment as per the requirements of CMS, state, Joint Commission and CAP.
  • Identifies appropriate resources and sources for re-directed inquiries.
  • Acts as a reference source for laboratory procedures for all testing locations.
Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree Medical Technology or other science-related field Required
Experience Qualifications
  • At least four (4) years of clinical laboratory experience, including a mastery of advanced technical skills inventory. Required
Skills and Abilities
  • Exhibits the ability to work with computer programs and computer controlled equipment
  • Exhibits the ability to handle and interpret data, multitask, and maintains confidential material.
  • Exhibits good laboratory technique and safety practices.
  • Exhibits good communication, technical and organizational skills.
  • Experience and/or training in multiple laboratory sections and high complexity testing (advanced tech skill inventory)
  • Exhibits the ability interpret scientific literature & regulatory compliance and apply to laboratory policy & procedure improvement or development
  • Exhibits the ability to lead scientific projects towards procedure establishment and write regulatory compliant policy & procedures.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Medical Technologist (MT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) - upon hire - Preferred or
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) - upon hire - Preferred

Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you're working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
