Summary
Provide support for the HCC Print Shop by organizing, scheduling, and producing printed materials for faculty and staff. Operate a full range of high-speed printers, photocopiers, folder, cutter, and heat-sealed book binding equipment. Provide Tier 1 technical support for faculty, staff, students and members of the public contacting the technology service center ( TSC) via phone, TSC Portal, and in person. Evaluate and troubleshoot customer problems and provide immediate solutions, if practicable, or assign action to the appropriate IT department for resolution. Assist in creating trainings for the college community on IT initiatives and products.
Essential Role Responsibilities

  • Assist faculty and staff with production of printed materials, including course materials, campus signage, business cards, college mailer, and PRM materials.


  • Receives and review digital files to print on campus equipment.
  • Assist print shop customers when applicable to ensure print jobs are completed quickly and accurately.
  • Organizes work for production. Schedules workflows to allow for contingencies and complete all orders when required.

  • Ensures the proper and timely receipt of work orders and files sent electronically to the print shop.
  • Ensure the print shop is fully stocked with all necessary supplies.

  • Coordinates services call on copier equipment.
  • Completes standard maintenance tasks on copiers, chemical replenishment, replace staple wire and cleaning of exterior.

  • Answer and log TSC calls, providing a high level of customer service and detailed documentation.
  • Assess problems and provide resolution or referral for a wide range of technical issues.

  • Assist in documenting TSC procedures, processes and resolution for inclusion in the TSC knowledge management database.
  • Consults with all levels of staff to assist in creating and designing printed materials.
  • Trains part-time employees on the use of reprographic equipment.
  • Assist with open lab coverage, support TSC initiatives and events, and attends department meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Required High School or equivalent
Experience Required 0
Preferred Experience

  • H.S. diploma or equivalent.


  • Six months of experience using and troubleshooting Windows-based computer systems, peripheral devices such as scanners and printers, and Microsoft Office and a variety of other software applications in a Windows network environment.
  • Strong customer service skills and experience.
Preferred

  • Associate degree in computer field.
  • Ability to operate high-speed copiers, three-hole paper drill, automatic paper cutter and knowledge of book binding processes.
  • Knowledge of service desk tools and software, including TeamDynamix, Fischer Password Services, Duo Authentication, and Microsoft Active Directory.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a mature, professional attitude.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others to determine needs and to provide all desired reprographics services.
  • Considerable organizational and scheduling ability.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Regular attendance is a requirement of this job.
  • Overtime may be required during certain times of the year.
  • Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.
Physical Demand Summary

  • Standing several hours a day to run equipment and bending to adjust, loan/unload and repair equipment. Lifting boxes and moving equipment.
  • Must be able to lift 25lbs.
  • Exposure to paper dust, toner dust, excessive equipment noise, and machinery with moving parts.

As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
