The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Radiology Engineering is seeking a PRN Engineering Coordinator to install, repair, and maintain complex radiological diagnostic imaging equipment-including ultrasound and nuclear medicine systems-and associated components. This position supports the creation and maintenance of safe, functional, and sustainable imaging solutions through innovative design, technical expertise, and adherence to regulatory requirements. The role applies scientific knowledge, engineering principles, and problemsolving skills to support Radiology Engineering operations on an asneeded basis.

Duties Include:



  • Review and assess information and determine methodology to be used to complete project.
  • Perform short-term work assignments, between different departments.
  • Perform complex tasks in accordance with design specs and standards.
  • Communicate with project team members to assure project coordination.


  • Review completed work to assure it meets all relevant specifications and regulations.
  • Communicate with customers to verify finished product meets customer expectations and industry standards.


  • Oversee transducer and part tracking software, as well as maintain accurate records.
  • Communicate complicated engineering concepts.


  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Knowledge of and experience with designing, testing and fabricating components, devices, and other projects.
  • Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.

Qualifications - External

Required Qualifications



  • Completion of a Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.


  • Typically, 1-3 years' experience in equipment trouble shooting.
  • Knowledge of digital and analog electronics, high voltage distribution systems and electro-mechanical devices.
  • Knowledge and experience of networking and computer operating systems is required.
  • A high mechanical aptitude.
  • Fundamental knowledge in physics including interactions between electromagnetic waves and matter.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have valid driver's license and be able to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Management Driver's safety requirements.


Desirable Qualifications



  • Basic working knowledge of diagnostic imaging equipment, radiation detection and radioisotope principles.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy.
  • Experience in the assembly, installation, troubleshooting and repair of mechanical/electrical components and equipment.
