JOB TYPEClassification: Non Exempt Supervises Positions: JOB SUMMARYThe Master Electrician provides electrician functions to maintain the integrity and operability of the buildings and grounds of UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper and other affiliated facilities. The position requires the ability to effectively interact with all facility stakeholders. The Master Electrician must be able to work independently with a minimum of supervision. He/She must be a good time manager and able to prioritize the many competing tasks to meet the goals of UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper. The specific job functions include but are not limited to:Operates, maintains, installs, and inspects all non-clinical electrical systems and equipment within the hospital plant. This includes panels, switches, lighting, outlets, motors, etc.Tests and performs preventative maintenance on emergency power generators at prescribed intervals and documents same. Coordinates all repairs with assigned vendor.Installs and maintains telephone and data cabling, as required.Maintains electrical inspection and testing documentation for electrical safety program.Assists other Facilities Management staff as requested by Director, Facilities Management.Performs other job-related duties as directed by Director, Facilities Management.Follows, supports, and assists in enforcement of safety and infection control policies of the Facilities Management Department and all other hospital and department policies and procedures.Provides fire and security services, as required, during day shift.Performs emergency after-hours (scheduled on-call) maintenance. QUALIFICATIONSEducation: High School Diploma required. 2 Year/Associate's Degree in a technical science/trade or equivalent work experience preferred. 3 years of apprenticeship in the electrical trade required. Experience: 5 plus years of experience in commercial electrical distribution system installation and maintenance required. Healthcare experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details. Licensure: Current Master Electrician's license required. Significant and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of licensure. Current valid driver's license in state of employment in good standing required with evidence of insurance in order to qualify for and maintain position. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Applied knowledge in the application and practice of life safety, electrical and building codes. Extensive knowledge in repair and installation of electrical equipment, systems, and devices. Ability to analytically troubleshoot electronic and electrical equipment, including but not limited to, A/C equipment, switchgear, and motor control centers. Extensive knowledge in operations and maintenance of emergency generator sets and transfer switch equipment. Thorough knowledge and skill in the use of electrical testing devices. Thorough knowledge in understanding and utilizing technical service manuals, electrical schematics, and blueprints. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Knowledge in the operation and repair of mechanical equipment. Thorough knowledge in the use of personal computers and PC programs. Ability to hear and understand verbal communication changes in machine/equipment noises. Competencies

PHYSICAL DEMANDSPhysical Demand Code: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.
