Job Summary:

Under administrative direction of the Executive Director for TRIO Student Support Services, the Assistant Director is responsible for the coordination of the recruitment, enrollment and academic support of program participants for the SSS - Teacher Preparation program.Reports to the SSS Executive Director.

Job Description:

  • Assist in supervising project programming, budget management, recruitment initiatives and social media presence for SSS.

  • Responsible for academicmonitoringand follow-up tracking.

  • Collect and organize data necessary for program effectiveness.

  • Hire, supervise, train and evaluate SSS Advisor, Peer Coach, and faculty coaches.

  • Develop, implement and evaluate tracking system for enrollment/academic progress.

  • Serve as academic advisor for program participants.

  • Assist with the coordination of developmental education (Math, English or Reading) for program participants.

  • Assist SSS Executive Director in the writing of reports, evaluations, and budgets.

  • Collect, monitor and maintain participant records.

  • Assist in coordinating process of recruiting and selecting SSS participants.

  • Meet with SSS Participants regularly to monitor progress and complete a Student Success Plan for each participant.

  • Provide support to program participants regarding graduate school admissions, and financial aid.

  • Provide academic advising, career, financial literacy, and scholarship activities for SSS participants.

  • Assist in developing and implementing new participant orientations for SSS.

  • Support establishing and maintaining collaborative efforts both on and off campus to identify scholarship/job shadowing/internship opportunities for SSS participants.

  • Provide support for the completion and submission of Annual Performance Reports for the SSS Program.

  • Design and implement activities and services designed to increase retention and graduation rates of SSS program participants.

  • Coordinate collaborative student-driven activities between TRIO Programs including conferences and graduate school visits.

  • Perform job duties and responsibilities on campus.

  • Serve on committees as assigned or supported by the SSS Executive Director.

  • Participate in related professional organizations related to TRIO programs.

  • Participate in state, regional and national TRIO conferences.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the SSS Executive Director.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in education, counseling, counselor education, psychology, special education, student personnel, or a related field.

  • Extensive knowledge of recruitment, academic mentoring, follow-up tracking.

  • Minimum two years of experience in a student support services setting in four-year college or university.

  • Strong verbal and written communication.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Illinois State Education Licensure requirements.

  • Experience in developing student programming that fosters confidence-building, leadership, and academic skills.

  • Ability to teach in individual and small group instruction settings.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic, career and advising principles and practices.

  • Experience in academic advisement in higher education or related field.

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, customer service, communication and time management skills with ability to pay attention to details and follow-through.

  • Demonstrated initiative and experience working with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds.

  • Strong verbal and written communication.

  • Working software knowledge, including Word, Excel, Access, student databases.

  • Previous experience working on a federally funded program preferred.

  • Successful experience working with college students from diverse backgrounds, including educational, socioeconomic, culturally ethnic, and physical and/or learning disabilities.

Salary Range

$55,000 - $63,000
