Kennedy Jenks is seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer in the Irvine, California area. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer with 1-4 years of experience who is interested in developing technical skills in instrumentation and controls for municipal pump stations and water and wastewater facilities. You will be part of a collaborative, multi-discipline team providing engineering and environmental solutions to clients in the water environment and industrial sectors.



Key Responsibilities



As part of our Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) team, you will work under the guidance of senior engineers and discipline leadership while continuing to build your technical expertise. Responsibilities include:




  • Support the design of instrumentation and control systems as part of multi-discipline project teams
  • Assist with the development of process control system designs, including instrumentation layouts and control narratives
  • Support the preparation of Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and control strategies
  • Assist with network system architecture and design, feasibility studies, and cost estimates
  • Follow established design standards and procedures to create design documents including project drawings and specifications
  • Conduct field visits and provide field support during construction and startup, with mentorship
  • Coordinate with project managers, electrical engineers, and designers to support project delivery
  • Communicate with clients and internal teams with guidance from senior staff



Qualifications




  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 1-4 years of experience in instrumentation and controls, electrical engineering, or control systems (consulting experience preferred but not required)
  • Exposure to water, wastewater, pump stations, or industrial process facilities is a plus
  • Familiarity with some of the following is preferred:

    • Instrumentation systems and specifications
    • P&IDs and basic control strategies
    • PLC and/or SCADA systems (coursework, internships, or early professional experience acceptable)
    • AutoCAD (2D), Revit (3D), Microsoft Office Suite






  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred or ability to obtain
  • Interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the future

The anticipated salary range for this position is $88,000 - $140,000, depending on education, experience, qualifications, licensure/certifications, and geographic location.
