Plans, oversees, and coordinates the daily assignments and activities of Electric Operations field crews. Ensures operations are performed in accordance with applicable safety and environmental instructions and procedures, operating procedures and engineering plans and specifications, in order to affect the safe, timely, efficient and reliable installation, maintenance, repair and inspection of the electric distribution system and associated equipment. Provides planning, supervision and technical expertise to the Equipment Technician group, ensures compliance with all laws, regulations, Company policies and appropriate industry standards. Facilitates efforts to achieve a zero harm and 100% compliance culture.
Core Responsibilities
- Direct the work force, prioritize daily work assignments, and follow up to ensure work is completed correctly, safely, economically and in compliance with specifications and procedures.
- Provide technical guidance to technicians, engineering, operations and other field groups in support of routine (planned) and emergency (non- planned) work.
- Plan, coordinate and provide technical guidance to electrical construction projects requiring acceptance testing and commissioning of new Smart Grid / Distribution Automation equipment.
- Review, analyze, and approve test results for routine and non-routine work in order to commission new or repaired equipment.
- Coordinate all necessary training to ensure compliance with safety, environmental and operating procedures.
- Perform all administrative functions necessary to ensure proper operation of the local workout and office facilities, including time sheets, material ordering, payroll, polling and office operations.
- Ensure the work management system correctly reflects the department work activity.
- Develop and updates operational, testing, maintenance and repair procedures.
- Administer training to field technicians as required. Provide technical assistance when troubleshooting problems arise on existing Smart Grid / Distribution Automation devices and when implementing new technologies in the field.
- Supervise technicians with responsibility for the testing, installation, maintenance and repair of all Smart Grid / Distribution Automation devices. These devices include (but are not limited to) reclosers, sectionalizers, MOABs and other remote operated switches, voltage regulators, sophisticated capacitors, distribution supervisory control, data acquisition (DSCADA) equipment, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) equipment, as well as other associated monitoring and communications devices.
- Communicate, coordinate and provide guidance to personnel on work-rule compliance, good housekeeping and work area protection practices. Monitors and administers safety, environmental and training programs.
- Monitors compliance with Company policies and procedures, e.g. Performance Evaluations, EEO, Substance Abuse, Discipline, Security, Productivity, Environmental Instructions, Standards of Business Conduct, etc.
Required Education/Experience
- High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of related experience
Preferred Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of related experience
Relevant Work Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in construction, operations, maintenance, and/or restoration of the energy distribution systems, required.
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience, required.
- Must possess the ability to become a subject matter expert for the operation and maintenance of distribution automation equipment and systems, required.
- Must possess strong computer skills and be proficient in MS Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, required.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, required.
- Must be available to respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis. Ensures proper response to emergencies and interfaces with the Distribution Control Center (DCC). May supply and direct resources during emergencies, required.
- Experience using software such as WMS, OMS, NRG and Oracle, preferred.

Additional Physical Demands
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
- Must be willing to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, various shifts and stand-by.
- Availability for off-hour calls.
