Primary Responsibilities

We are looking for a Transportation Business Group Manager in our Anchorage, Alaska office. This position will report to the Alaska Area Manager and manage highways and roads, aviation, maritime, rail, structural, strategic communication, and real estate service group leaders. Responsibilities include collaborating with the Business Development Leader in supporting strategic client and project pursuits, managing projects, providing technical services, staff administration, overseeing deliverables' quality, and supervising and mentoring staff. The group manager is also responsible for preparing annual revenue forecasts and budgets, monitoring business group performance (e.g., utilization, workload, training), and working cooperatively with other northwest regional leaders to coordinate expertise and workload sharing.

The position is primarily focused on group leadership, growth, and internal staff development, and includes limited project work. Dedication to growth and innovative and inclusive communication is key. A commitment to curiosity and learning, as well as analytical and delegation skills, is essential for the role. This position is responsible for development, implementation, and maintenance of effective area business group programs, development strategies, new business prospects, technical services, quality, and production methods and standards, all within established goals and objectives of the business group.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years' experience in related Transportation Projects, in any of the specialty areas represented by the group
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and client relationships
  • Positive marketplace experience is required, with specific emphasis on a strong reputation and successful project delivery
  • Recognized industry track record of delivering high-quality, cost-effective solutions, meeting both client and regulatory expectations
  • Highly developed communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with people across disciplines, business units and with external partners
  • Strong strategic thinking and operational execution skills, with a history of initiating, leading, and managing organizational or team growth
  • Committed to continuous improvement, quality delivery, and upholding corporate values including integrity, collaboration, and innovation
  • Active support of client engagement and regional business growth
  • Ability to set and execute a strategic direction for the transportation practice in Alaska that is aligned with HDR's overall visions and long-term goals

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • A minimum of 10 years experience
  • Demonstrated experience with leading diverse teams
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
  • Ability to work cooperatively with regional and local office managers, other area business group directors, technical directors and marketing managers
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
