Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking an Assistant Director. The Assistant Director for
TRIO Programs and Partnership Initiatives reports to the Director/Associate Dean of the
Center for PreCollege Programs at Rutgers University-Newark. The Assistant Director will have primary oversight of the implementation, assessment, and sustainability of the federal
TRIO Programs and Partnership programming within the Center for PreCollege Programs. S/he will provide leadership and direction; anticipate complex functional needs; and develop recommendations and solutions for programs, policies, and services that meet the academic, social, and/or special population needs of the students served in the Newark and Greater Newark area. The Assistant Director will serve as the compliance director for federal grants received for all
TRIO Programs and oversee ancillary Partnership programs, including but not limited to University Assisted Partnerships. The
TRIO programs combined serve more than 560 scholars in the 6th through 12th grades in the Newark & Greater Newark Area.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Organize, administer, and coordinate multiple facets of programs, initiatives, projects, and/or processes via planning, preparation, evaluation, budget oversight, communications, events, records, statistics, reports, and documents.
- Manage evaluation of programs and services, assess service levels, and program progress, and prepare appropriate reports and recommendations.
- Research and plan curriculum and program criteria aligning with university and federal guidelines, as well as supervise and/or support professional staff.
- Develop collaborative efforts and strategic alliances with internal constituents and external agencies, corporations, foundations, and target school districts to enhance service deliverables and overall TRIO and Partnership program operations.
- Maintain and enhance the precollege programming and assist in the grant writing, proposals, resource development, and fundraising activities.
This position is contingent on the continuation of external funding. |

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Master's degree in Education, Public Administration, Counseling, Student Development or a related field or commensurate experience.
- Five years of responsible educational administrative, research, and training experience with demonstrated ability to perform the duties and responsibilities.

- The Assistant Director must have demonstrated experience and knowledge in the unique needs of students participating in the TRIO and Partnership programs.
- The programs serve students who may come from economically and educationally challenged backgrounds, in both personal and academic areas. S/he must have demonstrated excellent experience in the development and management of creative alternative programming, and strong communication and leadership skills.
- Specific experience in leading TRIO programs is vital to the leadership expectations for this position.

- The Assistant Director should understand how to strategically serve BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Urban, First Generation, and Low-Income students.
- The Assistant Director should have emotional intelligence and display sensitivity to the challenges that the population may need to overcome.

- Beyond Microsoft Office suite (or similar) software, the Assistant Director must be familiar with database and statistical software, social networking web applications, as well as University, State, and Federal applications.

- Must be able to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.
