Overview

The Specialty Pharmacy Manager oversees daily operations and overall performance of the Specialty Pharmacy, ensuring safe, efficient, and patientcentered services. The role supports and sustains programs that enhance clinical outcomes, leads all human resources functions, and fosters a highperforming team culture.

The manager collaborates on departmental goals aligned with organizational priorities, including budget targets. They drive quality and processimprovement initiatives to strengthen efficiency, workflows, and outcomes while ensuring full compliance with accreditation standards, pharmacy licensure requirements, and all state and federal regulations. The manager serves as a mentor and leader within UPAH Specialty Pharmacy, maintains timely and effective communication across teams, and consistently demonstrates professionalism and embodies the organization's FOCUS values.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership within the pharmacy to ensure effective, efficient operations, optimizing performance and continually improving quality of care.
  • Performs and/or delegates the human resources functions of hiring, discipline, evaluations, rounding, and staff development.
  • Coordinates and participates in the initial and ongoing training of staff.
  • Creates and manages scheduling of pharmacy staff to support safe patient care.
  • Establish effective mechanisms of communication with staff, providers, patients and other members of the management team to foster an environment of openness, trust, teamwork and staff development.
  • Gathers appropriate data to analyze performance and utilizes critical thinking skills to develop and implement process changes to positively affect performance of the operations.
  • Responds to patient service issues and actively engages in service recovery.
  • Communicates with leadership regularly to review service issues and opportunities for improvement. Ensures the delivery of high-quality service to all internal and external customers.

Qualifications

Education:

  • B.S. Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)

    Graduate of an accredited school of Pharmacy

Experience:

  • Must have a minimum of four years of relevant pharmacy experience or completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1/PGY2 Heath-System Pharmacy Administration Residency

Licensure/Certification:

  • Applied for license as a Pharmacist in the state(s) of practice
  • Valid Drivers License
  • IA/IL Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care
  • IA/IL Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care
