Your Role

As a Summer Product Design Intern in Gensler's Los Angeles office, you will join our creative studio environment for a fulltime, paid internship opportunity.

This is a full-time program running from June 2 through August 7, 2026, and you must be available for the entire duration of the program.

What You Will Do

  • Contribute to the design and development of furniture collections, spatial systems, lighting fixtures, and product solutions across a range of market verticals.

  • Participate in design charrettes and work sessions that help define strategic goals and design directions.

  • Engage in hands-on collaboration with designers, architects, technical specialists, and fabricators.

  • Produce concept sketches, 3D models, digital prototypes, and technical drawings.

  • Build physical mock-ups, material studies, and scale study models.

  • Research materials, manufacturing methods, ergonomic considerations, and sustainability strategies.

  • Create compelling presentations, diagrams, and storytelling artifacts that communicate design intent.

  • Explore emerging technology applications in product and spatial design, including computational design, generative workflows, visualization, and physical prototyping.

Your Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Product Design, Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Spatial Design, Architecture, or a related field.

  • Completion of your third year of undergraduate study or first year of graduate study and returning to your program post-internship. (Not open to recent graduates.)

  • Experience using Solidworks and AI visualization platforms such as Nano Banana is required.

  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

  • Strong skills in 3D modeling, prototyping, and material exploration.

  • Ability to create or interpret technical drawings, fabrication details, and assembly diagrams.

  • Hands-on skills in model making, digital fabrication (CNC, laser cutting), or 3D printing are a plus.

  • Curiosity about emerging technologies, including: generative AI and computational processes, XR/VR/AR for product visualization, parametric design tools, and material innovation and sustainable fabrication methods.

  • Artistic storytelling and presentation skills, including the ability to clearly articulate design intent.

  • Curiosity and critical thinking around technology's role in the future of design.
