About the Job:

Under general supervision, responsible for assisting with insurance procurement and risk analysis for the Company; administration of Risk Management Information System (RMIS), contract review; arranges for bonds and certificates for the Company; maintains workers' compensation self-insurance permits.

What You'll Do:

Contract Review & Insurance Certificates

  • Review proposed contractual agreements, determining potential loss exposures and providing guidance to the Divisions.
  • Assist Corporate Legal with contract negotiations relative to insurance requirements.
  • Review and evaluate requests for insurance certificates and issue insurance certificates for the Company as required by contracts and as otherwise required for division and corporate jobs.
  • Answer questions and resolve problems division personnel or customers may have regarding issuance of certificates.
  • Annually review certificate list with each division and assist brokers in renewing certificates at policy expiration.

Property and Casualty Insurance Procurement & Administration

  • Review insurance policies and endorsements to assure compliance with desired terms and conditions.
  • Maintain communications with brokers and insurers in order to confirm proper endorsements and filings are made as required.
  • Analyze insurance premiums and loss history and evaluate in order to calculate and properly allocate charges among operating units.
  • Analyze insurance premium notices for accuracy and arrange for appropriate payment.
  • Assemble Vulcan internal data needed for insurance renewals and arrange data into acceptable and appealing presentations to insurers and brokers.
  • Assemble information needed to evaluate the limits of insurance required by the company.
  • Confer with Insurance loss protection engineering personnel and division operating personnel regarding the safe operation of Vulcan facilities and assist in the development of procedures to maximize efficient protection of Vulcan property assets. Participate in reviews and follow up with division personnel to ensure that appropriate loss control suggestions are timely completed.
  • Assemble and present Risk Management actuarial loss data and insurance cost information to Department Management.
  • Assist with the management and annual review of insurance program collateral requirements.

Workers Compensation Self-Insurance Permits

  • Compile and analyze workers' compensation loss data in order to ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements for reporting of on-the-job injuries.
    - Compile data and complete State and Federal self-insurance filings for State Workers' Compensation and Federal Compensation Acts.
    - Represent the company in communications with State Insurance Department regulatory officials and resolve all issues involving statutory compliance.
  • Assemble all data necessary and prepare required report forms, including payroll, loss history, premium calculations, and analyze data in order to calculate experience modifications.
  • Run Ad hoc reports from RMIS as may be required by the states and actuarial analyses.
  • Evaluate and assemble loss data in order to allocate WC self-insurance charges to operating divisions, subsidiaries, and affiliated companies.
  • Stay abreast of state compliance tax requirements for jurisdictions where Vulcan does business and make accurate calculations of the assessments and premium taxes to assure proper compliance and payment.
  • Assemble and evaluate necessary information and prepare state self-insurance forms for the various states where Vulcan operates for execution by a corporate official.
  • Arrange for state-mandated collateral in order to qualify for self-insurance permits.

Risk Management Information System (RMIS) Administration

  • Assist with the maintenance of the RMIS database so that all records needed for Safety, Claims and insurance underwriters are maintained in such a way as to be easily retrievable utilizing ad hoc reports.
  • Assist the RMIS System Administrator and liaison with corporate IS department and software provider on upgrades, system problems, etc. to minimize down-time and maximize system efficiency.
  • Run and deliver reports for Risk Department, underwriters, legal, safety departments, actuaries, insurance brokers, and state and federal governments, as needed.
  • Conduct continuous system review to optimize system utilization.
  • Assist with the review/revision of procedures and system security to improve and maintain data accuracy and consistency.
  • Assist with RMIS Organization Hierarchy maintenance, which requires routine communications with divisions as respects plant locations, acquisitions, divestitures, etc.

Surety Bonds

  • Evaluate bond requirements and obtain premium and penalty information, and assure the completion of bond forms to meet requests from all divisions, subsidiaries, and the corporate office.

    - Includes maintaining working relationships with surety brokers and surety companies

  • Analyze purchase orders, contracts, and bids to ascertain bond requirements and for accuracy and completeness, and arrange for execution by the appropriate corporate officer.
  • Communicate and negotiate with outside purchasing and legal departments regarding contract requirements for bonds.
    - Includes providing contract wording to minimize potential company and bond liability.
  • File bonds with State, Federal government agencies, contractors, and customers as needed.
  • Calculate and coordinate the payment of bond premiums, allocating charges to the appropriate division or subsidiary.
  • Follow up with divisions and sureties to get bonds renewed and/or cancelled. Design and maintain a database to track bonds to be cancelled and follow up with the surety company to get refunds.
  • Maintain records of dollar amounts of outstanding contingent bond liabilities, which are subject to indemnification by Vulcan with the bonding companies.
Qualifications

Education:

  • BS degree in business administration or related field preferred but not required.

Experience:

  • Prefer at least 1 year experience in insurance or related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires sound thought and judgment in reviewing contractual agreements, maintaining confidentiality of certain files, and obtaining data for government reports. Requires the ability to communicate both by phone and written correspondence within and outside of the Company. Knowledge of general insurance policies and procedures as they relate to contract review and certificate issuance.
