Histology Assistant 2 Job Responsibilities:

  • Obtains and processes pathology specimens maintaining positive specimen identification, assist histology technicians, and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure the quality preparation of all specimens.

  • Performs all clerical and computer tasks necessary to support the quality operation of the department.

  • Performs frozen section staining, cover-slip and appropriately label slides to aid in diagnostic evaluation.

  • Orders supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels at all times, according to established procedures; Processes send outs accurately and completely, according to established procedures; Handles slides, blocks, and tissues (to include filing, retrieval and disposal) in a timely and accurate manner, according to established procedures.

  • Prepares and maintains the morgue and autopsy areas, according to established procedures; Assists the pathologist with autopsies, to possibly include opening and closing of the body, according to established procedures and to the satisfaction of the pathologist.

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Years of Experience: 1 year as Histology Assistant I or equivalent
