Department Summary The Research Assistant will be working on research projects for UCLA Anderson faculty members for Erica Jiang (Finance) and Terrence Tianshuo Shi (accounting). The research will be in a variety of fields within finance and financial accounting (private capital, banking, information disclosure, innovation and entrepreneurship). For more details on potential research topics, please refer to the personal webpages of Erica Jiang and Terrence Tianshuo Shi. We are looking for intellectually curious, open-minded students who are eager to learn new methods and ideas. Tasks will involve conducting literature reviews of published papers in various areas of finance and accounting, assisting in the design of empirical research, collecting, or scraping data from webpages and other sources, performing econometric analyses of data using programing languages, and providing regular status updates on the aforementioned tasks. The Research Assistant will exercise independent judgment, take initiative, and appropriately manage deadlines. Basic analytical and quantitative skills, with some familiarity and proficiency in statistical software and programing languages, like Stata, R, SAS, and/or Python, are required, as is proficiency in oral and written English communication. A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative subject such as Economics, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Computer Science, or Applied Math is preferred. We particularly encourage applications from candidates with experience in Computer Science, either through coursework or practical applications. Candidates with an intention to proceed to doctoral study in Finance or Accounting are strongly preferred. On site presence is preferred for this position, but remote work can be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. The Research Assistant will exercise independent judgment and make procedural and research adjustments as needed, take initiative, and appropriately manage deadlines. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common.
